A Shower Cap for Gerald!!!!! (or any S series)

I find the roof panels a pain in the ae when I' just popping ou to the shops/pub etc and the weather dosent look settled to be dry and I have heard other comments on here as well.

I have been to the local trim shop and asked them how much it would be to have a mini cover made just to replace the roof panels when parked. It would cover the top edge of the windscreen, door glass and rear hood. It would be held down at the front with elastics probably around the door mirrors and either fastened to the velcro at the front edge of the base of the hood or hooked into rear wheel arch or wheel (padded hook not to do any damage).

The cost would be about £70 for a one off and obviously cheaper for a quantity, is there any interest

I use one of these:

Car Convertible Top Cover

It is very lightweight, waterproof and easy to fit. I removed the centre straps (for under the car) and reinforced the other straps where they join the cover. Soft plastic hooks fit on to the wheels and the straps can be pulled tight.

It took Chris71 and I five minutes to work out how to put that cover on his motor last night at the pub. We looked like a right couple of muppets, particularly when the impending thunderstorm blew away in the other direction and left a fairly clear sky.

Not sure if that's my one or not - looks similar, but mine doesn't have 'soft plastic hooks'. That or we were doing it very wrong.

Seems perfectly addequate for a shower cap and a lot cheaper than some. It did leave a bit of condensation afterwards thoguh - don't know if the pricier ones are breathable?

I think the other guys thought we were a bit aloof, but three TVRs with roof panels and so on to sort out was always going to be a team effort.

what I would like is a Lotus Elise style roll-up roof that would have four spring frame pieces to slot into the existing roof location slots (and kind of give it some shape) with two plastic runners, one each side to clip onto the glass...

^ often thought about this after seeing a similar setup on a mates VX220. A solid bar fits on one side onto which the window seals. A fabric section containing ribs is rolled out and a second bar fits on the other side for the other window seal. This bit probably wouldn't be too tricky, its getting the seal with the screen surround and the 'roll hoop' that perplexes me.

Maybe the four ribs should overlap the screen and roof loop with the clips still locating into the existing slots ?

That would be the obvious place to locate them, problem really is getting the fabric to seal against the surround and the hoop.

Yes that would be essential on the move but the overlap might be sufficient for just parking ?

I know a number of the owners have taken a saw to their single targa sections to create something akin to the superior 'S' design

I think we should consult the guy who designed those 1/2 suitcase sized fold out picnic table and 4 chairs that way we could store the roof in the ashtray
