I'm thinking about picking up one of those snazzy little Freeview recorder boxes, and the choice so far seems to be the Humax range. The big question is - do I want the new 9300 or the old 9200?

For the moment it's going to be attached to a boggo SD CRT TV, so I don't especially need the HDMI out on the 9300. On the other hand, this TV's not going to last an awful lot longer, so I'd like the option to use it in the future (assuming it's going to give me an appreciable difference in picture quality over connecting it to a HD telly with a SCART cable).

Being able to grab recorded shows from the box via USB would be nice, which the 9200 does and the 9300 probably won't.

Just bought a 9200 for the Outlaws. They have no desire for (or understanding of, frankly) HD, so it is more than adequate for them. Quick setup, outlaw-proof, looks well built too. Slightly complicated remote (took me a while to figure out how to locate previously-recorded programmes) but otherwise ideal.

Parents have a humax 80Gbt, it's not bad and does what it says on the tin, but I prefer my Topfield.

Good units, highly recommended - get the 160gb version too.

That's a 8000 without the twin tuner. The main difference between the 2 is that the 9300 comes with the HDMI and a disc that is twice as big (320 instead of 160GB). The 9200 can be bought from HUMAX direct with a 320 though. The Topfield is expensive and due to be replaced.

No idea about the HD quality of the new one but I just picked up a 9200t, and I'm surprised at how huge it is. From the picture on the website I assumed it would be about half that size.

I've had a PVR9200T for a couple of years and it has been great.
Reception was much better than previous boxes and I rarely have any interference with it. In fact it's better than the TV I just bought.
160GB is more than enough for me, but I couldn't do without the twin tuners.

Buy from Humax Direct for the best prices, I think - particularly if you're happy to go for a factory re-pack Grade A, though the warranty is shorter.

As for HDMI, I still don't understand why I need it when the only thing which can be received by the box is SD broadcasts. My telly upscales fine; why is upscaling in the Humax any better?

I've got a 9200t and its great.
My wife did do something pretty odd the other day though and through pressing the menu key too many times in succesion wiped the drive of everything we had recorded, so that may be a flaw, or just my wife.
