Simple;

How much faith do you have in the British Justice System to administer fit and suitable punishment and re-education?

1 - Means you have absolutely no faith whatsoever in the British Justice System

10 - Means you have 100% faith in the British Justice System

Useful if you put a comment as well. What do people feel needs to be improved / where do you believe the failing is?

With the Government & their policy?
With the Police and their methods of policing?
With the Courts and their sentencing?

I apprecaite the last two are influenced by the first, but i'm interested to know where people feel the system fails.

Used to be very pro, and proud.

Anyone that has experienced the family courts system is quickly disabused of such notions.

used to think we had the best justice system in the world. Then i experienced it first hand. It really is shocking.

I believe the courts get the vast majority of judgements correct. We only ever hear about the contentious or incorrect findings, not the huge numbers of cases that pass without complaint.

I that crimes and punishments do not match up. Government induced target chasing means that normally law abiding 'compliant' crims are treated more harshly than the hard to catch and hard to correct hardcore offenders.

I'm thinking of harsh punishments for minor traffic offences but apparently leinent sentencing for violent offenders.

Do you mean the judiciary? Or including the police? It's a bit of a broad topic.

Let's take the whole for now. It is a broad topic, i agree, but i'm interested to see what people thing of the whole system. I'm hoping that contributors will note where they believe the system fails.

(will edit OP to encourage this)

I voted but it said "A courtroom sketch artist is drawing the poll". How can we trust the results confused

How can you trust a system that lets violent criminals out of prison early and hands pensioners custodial sentences for not paying council tax and fines for putting the wrong item in the wrong waste bin

None anymore. It protects the criminals and persecutes their victims.

I think it's better than any other system that I am aware of, not perfect, just better.

the system end to end is pretty much fuc4ed. Almost exclusively caused by Government policy and target chasing.

Sentences seem to be random joke.

Not perfect but probably the best in the world.

Anyone care to think of a better one?

I have more faith in the judiciary than I have in the current Government's ability not to stifle, meddle, conflagrate, and generally bugger it all up.

I said 4.
It's bad, but it's one of the least bad.

When I was young, I thought that the police caught bad people and robbers, then they went to court and got put in jail. Very wrong.

I'm only 20 so haven't experienced how it was in the past, although I can't imagine that it was much different. I haven't been prosecuted by anything btw.

To sum up my feelings as a reasonable and generally law-abiding person, the justice system is not on my side. When I need it, it will let me down. When I fall foul of it for a minor transgression, it will rape me.

Who to blame? I don't know, but not the front line people. Front line people always get the blame.

Just bare in mind the Police aren't the CPS; and are as pissed off about the whole thing as us lot.

Too much experience of police officers 'making up' laws, general harrasment and near torture of law abiding citizens to incite a reaction, to deliberatly make things unpleasant, and occasions of officers threatening to enforce 'made up' laws. Not enough experience in courts to say, so can only judge on the bits I've seen.

Yep, that's a big fat zero.

Few months back in Brighton I found a wallet with £1500 cash inside, and was shocked to discover I didn't trust the police enough to hand it to a patrol! (phoned them, and guy collected it). An occasion where actual, non-ranting perceptions come through!

I actually think I'd get better justice from a police officer in Thailand - pretty bad!

You found one and a half large and tracked down the owner and returned it?

Kudos.

Good man.
