Just the fan, there was a choice but I went with Richards advice. It is a 'pull' fan so sits on the inside and is held in place by two lugs at the top for which I carefully drilled the top edge of the rad housing (1/16th drill) and used self tappers. The bottom lugs use two long plastic retainers which push through the matrix and have retaining washers behind. Note this is now 4yrs old but still runs silently and no overheating at all.

http://www.chimaerapages.com/resources_fan.phpThanks for the info' gentlemen.
My local garage has confirmaed that the fan is FUBAR. I'm going to replace it and do a full coolant swap and thermostat change while I'm at it.
I'd appreciate opinions on replacing the melted fan fuse, see the 'overheating' postings, with an inline fuse mounted close to the otter switch. It would save a lot of time and effort scrabbling around trying to cut out the burnt wires from the back of the fuse box.

Can you tell me how much the fan was Pringli?

I've decided to go for the Kenlowe.
As it comes with an inline fuse and the present one is melted in the fuse box, do I have to do anything with the melted one? I don't know if I should pull the wires off it and joint them, it was part of the original circuit after all, or just leave it.
Any advice?

You can do either... putting them in the hose is probably better but they work fine on the outside when secured with the adhesive foil supplied in the kit:

BTW The tape in the pic above was just to hold them in place while I took the photo!

Finally back on the road.
I went for a Kenlowe with variable temperature control and an override switch that will be mounted in the cabin.
To mount the control for the fan we decided to fashion a bracket and attach a stainless plate to the air flow meter.
We went for a rear mounted fan and inserted the temperature sensor in the hose just below the battery.

Still some tidying up of wires to do and have to fit the override switch somewhere in the car. If anyone has an override switch fitted I'd be grateful for suggestion as to where to mount it.
Now all I have to do is finish this lot off and I'll have somewhere to keep 'Harvey' dry over winter and do all the jobs that have been piling up while I've been building the 'shed'....
I started with this a month after buying the 'S' in May;

and am now this far;

It's been a difficult choice on sunny weekends for the last few weeks; do I carry on with the garage or fix the fan and drive? I carried on with the garage but cracked last weekend as the tax was up on Tuesday - got the fan done and re-taxed the S just to get another month of possible fun before the winter sets in.
