Hola ladies & gents!

As some of you may or may not know. A month or two back I was inches away from my dream TVR (As per my profile). Planning to try again in the future. However! As a backup plan if I don't acquire one in time I may go down the hire route if it's a feasible option.

I'm planning on whisking away a certain lady friend of mine up to the Highlands for a few days. Gorgeous driving roads & scenery for the two of us on the way there with the prospect of a lovely hotel & some extreme sports activities to spend the few days we're up there.

I would IDEALLY like to be able to do the route in a Chimaera as per the one I was looking to buy. It's just almost a perfect combination for that sort of trip (especially after seeing a Griff owner posting pictures with the Highlands as his backdrop for the trip!).

Anyone have any ideas/experience with this? I can imagine I may pay through the nose in terms of excesses/deposits but for a trip like I'm thinking, it may just be worth it.

Gracias!

Barry Ashcroft

Not wanting to be the bearer of bad news but at 21 I would think you have absolutley no chance of hiring one sorry.
Just checking via google on the site's it brings up the minimum seams to be 28 with at least 3 years of a full licence. The majority are 30+

Figured that may be the case, worth a try anyway hehe

Having said, although my insurance would cover driving a TVR as my own car I doubt it could handle a rental. It would be nice to explore every option though.

Good call, given them a ring. They're willing to take my details & pass it on to there insurer for a decision but I'm pretty sure what the answer will be. Oh well, we shall see!

Google throws up more options http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&rls=p,com.m... but mainly Speed6 cars.

Or for something different, how about a 3000S that is already in the Highlands? So you could fly up (cheaply?) drive around and fly back down? http://www.scotland-inverness.co.uk/bht-classic.ht...

No idea if these websites are up to date.

you could possibly try hire a car from one of these 25yrs plus companies and offer to pay extra for insurance or take insurance out yourself - won't be much for a few days.

never done this and no idea if it would work but seems logical
Hmmm...That's worth thinking about. I wonder whether it's do-able :/

It's not really going to happen is it? Car hire of anything bigger than a Polo at your age. Either find a very charitable friend or member of a local club, or use something more realistic. Or quirkier. You can do it the TVR way another time!

Unless you plan to die soon and this is your bucket list, you're got all the time in the world biggrin

Not wanting to put dampeners on the whole plan, but are you sure your friend will appreciate this, especially if she's around the same age. You may be better spending the money on a nice hotel, nice meals etc...

I know - women eh!

I think he's hoping the car may make his lady freind, err, moist, which if he does manage to source a Tiv, it probably will......as it'll be leaking like a sieve hehe

I do not think people should waste anymore time on this thread.

The original poster has two other threads going.

In one, he is asking for suggestions as to where to take the same lady (with whom he is planning to travel around Scotland in a TVR)on holiday.

In the other, he claims to be considering working as a male escort.

Is he really serious about anything?

Of course his age, the hire cost, the security deposit and the 100 miles a day limit will scupper his plans.

The last poster was correct. Not many girls in their late teens/early 20s would want to trail round Scotland in Autumn/Winter in an old TVR.

He's a lad. He's 21. He's found a woman and testosterone is running through his body like glacial melt water running down the mountainside. He also has ambitions to buy a TVR.

Please feel free not to waste your time on this thread, but I remember being in a similar position (ok, maybe not wanting to holiday in the Highlands or becoming a male escort) so I'll coninue to humour him a little more.

laugh

I knew I could rely on you to be honest Fubes.

The escort business was something I'd look seriously @ maybe in a year or two time, it's nice to talk through idle musings & hear different views.

Highland visits, well the inspiration came from the original holiday thread. Then while working late one night, discussed holidaying around Scotland with a colleague. Touched upon good driving roads which led to me posting this. At which point Fubar posted a Tiv up in Scotland that can accomodate a 21yr old, perfect.

The thread did it's job thumbup
