i have to say id love to have a bash at doing that! have no experience whatsoever of anything remotely like that, but the thought of being one of the few people to go to the south pole is awesome!

mind you, i could always wait 25 years- according to all the doommongers, by then the planet will be so messed up, we'll be subbathing on the shores of antarctica with a few penguins for complany, wondering where all their snow has gone...

Anyone who has read Ranulph Fiennes autobiography will know what a breeze this trip will be.

I'd love to do something like that. Unfortunately there's one thing that would prevent me from being selected.

Tell them it's your fuel tank, and that because it is bigger than all the other applicants, you are the obvious candidate as you can go for longer without refuelling.

Count me in if you are using the Toyota 4X4 like they did in Top Gear. Walking 97 miles while dragging some load will be a bit of a chore.

If I were younger and fitter (less fuel capacity) I'd love to have a try at this. To put it into perspective, there's a similar trip you can do to ski "the last degree" that costs $40K starting from South America. Antarctica is a place like no other.

Having recently read the story of Shackleton, I think I'll decline.

ETA But it's good to see they are related to the original team. Hope they do well.

This isn't one of those attractive propositions which ends up with me (in my pants) having to wrestle some bloke in the back of a van whilst another films it?

I doubt anything will come of it but I've entered.
I've always wanted to do something that will push me to the limit both physically and mentally.
