iO Play incompatible

I've just been told that the stereo in my 2002 A4 (Bose Symphony) is incompatible with the iO Play system for my iphone as there isn't an off the shelf connector that fits. Has anybody found a way of getting the two to work together with a bit of DIY?

Does anybody know of a Bose compatible setup that will work? The two main functions i want are bluetooth phonecalls to play through the stereo and Bluetooth Audio streaming - basically i want my iphone to play music and take calls with 1 bluetooth device, like the iO Play thingymajig was supposed to.
