I read that tabasco pepper sauce (Capsicum frutescens var. tabasco) mixed with live yoghurt becomes an anti- biotic. So in a way, it could be said that pepper is good for you.

Some peppers are said to kill cancer too.

I reckon there is way more heavy stuff to worry about!

I have concluded long before today that pepper is the only substance one can eat without fear of a nasty shock when reading the Daily Wail one day.

I heard sniffing pepper makes you sneeze in a certain way and it feels like an orgasm. A friend told me honest

this doesn't work

Not related. Salt and sodium are chemically active in the body, but pepper is merely dried plant matter.

Pedant: Na and Cl are active as ions in the body and principally act to control water movement in intracellular and extracellular space. Sodium (Na) is also very important for cell wall electrical gradients and cell depolarisation. The body is a massive electrical and filtration system.

Freshly ground black pepper is one of my most used ingredients. I tend to use it instead of salt.

This knowledge should never be incorporated into the use of yoghurt as a topical treatment for thrush.

If people start to enjoy it, it will suddenly become bad for you, or be taxed, or banned. Or all three.

If you have a low white cell count or a neutrapenic (a type of white cell) then you should avoid freshly ground pepper. The corns can grow a fungus on the outside which can cause you problems. Though if you are "normal" then it's not worth thinking about.

Yeah I read years ago that salt does not raise blood pressure as is popularly claimed and that in fact cutting back on salt may even lead to circulatory problems, but then it was probably in the same paper where I read a spoonfull on my chips will kill me stone dead..
Which do you believe in the end.

As for Pepper. Lovely stuff especially ground, and as far as I know no-ones said it'll kill me..yet

On the other hand, look at their home page:

hippy jester

As I understand it, reducing salt intake is useful in reducing blood pressure in patients who have high blood pressure and totally pointless for the rest of us. I think the point of the drive to make us reduce salt is so that when we become old and prone to blood pressure problems, we won't be used to consuming lots of the stuff and so won't have to cut down. It is, as you say, bullst.

I read in some girly mag or other something about adding pepper to your food helps burn calories?. I wasn't as much reading the article as looking at the pictures so don't know how accurate this fact is.
