Hello esteemed internet-perverts,

I have, at the bottom of my car park, the old (and I mean old) cooker wot I removed from the kitchen on account of it not working in the manner to which I am accustomed. Now, it is, as a cooker, useless and beyond economic repair; being held together, as it is, by 25 years worth of grease - however, it weighs a lot (3 burly blokes struggled to move it on a pallet truck albeit on "rough" terrain). My question is, should I be looking at paying to have it removed what with scrap metal now worth more than gold plated saffron? Or would a quote of £30 be about right for a local (circa 10 miles away) firm to send out a lorry with a grab to take it away from me.

I hope this question finds you well and you and your family are succeeding with the therapy.

With fondest regards,
Mr I N Quirer.
Enc.

You need some pikeys, they'll happily remove it for you.

You might jsut get someone that collects scrap cars to take it away for free too, but its probably only worth £40 to 50 as scrap so by the time they've collected it they won't get much profit form it.

Check out your local Friday Ad or Yell.com for waste disposal - Domestic!
You should find someone to take it away for nowt!

Scrap Iron/frag feed is currently £110 per tonne down my way

Is it stainless?

So if scrap is fetching £110 per tonne and he's been offered £30 for a cooker, where's the 'laugh'?

You seen many cookers knocking on 1000kg?

He has been quoted £30 quid to take it away.

He has got to pay them.

Take it home and clean it. Perhaps lick it. Maybe even shaft it. Read poetry to it & lick it some more.

I suggest you move it to the other side of the carpark, well out of the way of passing patrons and staff

I got a tenner for a rusty old lawnmower and now useless mini spare parts out of my dad's shed last weekend. We had to take them down ourselves, but the scrappy was next door to the local tip which is where we were going to take them anyway.

So that's about 60miles of juice for the barge! thumbup

Sorry - misread that - but as far as I can see it's still a good value quote. 20 mile round trip in a truck plus driver cost easily exceeds the value of cooker. Now if he chucked a few empty beer barrels in too......smile

Leave it in a prominent position,it will go all on its own...

My brother had a skip on his drive a couple of days ago as hes having a new kitchen fitted. As there was some spare room in the skip he decided to clear out his cellar and put about half a dozen old kids bikes in.When he came back to the skip an hour later they had gone.

When we replaced our 1yr old gas cooker, we contacted a local charity, also the council charity people to see if anyone wanted it for free. We ended up paying for it to be taken away for scrap. £25. Charities don't want GAS cookers only Electric. Bloody picky or what?

yes

That's what I do...

It's also how a mate used to get rid of unrepairable TVs that I had stripped for parts to repair his less knackered ones... it never seemed to get round that the TV on the bench opposite the flats by the lights would always be nothing more than a shell with a screen in it hehe

You stick it on the verge with a sign saying: 'Cooker, good working order, £50 ono'

With luck it will then be nicked.

(It worked for my accountant's dad's fridge!)

Knowing where Phil is based I don't think he gets much passing traffic capable of picking up this cooker! Although half a dozen ramblers might be able to roll it down the hill for him

You'd be suprised where pikeys can get to.Leave pack of copper pipe at the top of mount everest and a Transit pickup with high sides, orange flasing light on the top,and a fitted towbar would make it up there to swipe it.
