Hi,

I've wanted a TVR for along time. I've kept it safe by going Audi, Porsche, etc for the last 8 years. My time has come...

Does anyone have a view on this car? Stay well clear? Anyone know how much roughly a new Head Gasket would cost?

Just looking for some guidance. Any comments much appreciated.

Cheers

James

More than likely it'll need more than a head gasket.

Depends what you're looking at spending, I believe the new Racing Green engine is a good one, it might be worth enquiring what the costs are and if it fits into your budget takie the car straight there for a rebuild?

Looks a bit dodgy to me. It's listed as red in the advert. It's faded badly for a start. Gawd only knows what the underneath is like.

walk away, on a w plate that is so going to be a full rebuild, prices have dropped since buying mine on an x plate with 10,000 miles and still needing full rebuild after 2 months of use, and if you want a good rebuild you may as well do the clutch, i spent 9k with a very good engine rebuilder, my advice would be look for one already done and with someone looking to recover costs. obviously imho.

ps the guy that did mine said they rarly blow head gaskets!!

In this other thread I said that it was worth the price.
That opinion is from a certain point of view.
I bought mine, which at the time I hadnt seen cheeper at 14k, with the expectation of working on it and putting things right.
I spent a lot of money but when your finished you end up with an incredible car.
To me it has been priced low and so compensates for the work ahead.
There are plenty on here who have paid more thinking they have got a "sorted" car and then still had to fork out for rebuilds etc.
I am sure that leaves a more bitter taste in the mouth than knowing in the first place.

It depends on what you are expecting for that money.

But good luck in your search.

You are quite right, there are no horrible surprises if you buy one cheap knowing what you have to spend to get it sorted, this can be a sensible route. I can still taste the bitterness yuckhehe
