Audi Coupe - fault warning
Discussion
Hi guys, I wonder if anyone can help.
I have a warning code coming up on the dash which looks like an exclamation mark in brackets (!) this is accompanied by an irritating beeping. This seems to come on intermitantly on various journeys. Does anyone know what this might be? Or if there is a fuse I can remove temporarily to stop the irritating beeping before I get it booked in to be looked at.
The car is a 1993 Audi Coupe 2.8e Quattro.
Thanks in advance
Nick

This is indeed the Brake Warning Light but it could be for a variety of reasons. Firstly, if you have only had this the once check your Hydraulic Fluid and your Brake Fluid.
If all the levels are fine it could just be that the Brake Pressure Accumulator is playing up and losing pressure slightly which will cause you no need for concern. Mine takes a little while to build pressure and consequently I get this irritating beep on start up.
To test the BOMB, start your car and pump the brake pedal until it feels like it normally does when in motion and then turn the car off. After the engine has been turned off pump the brake pedal until it goes hard. If you get 40-50 pumps before the pedal goes hard then your BOMB is within working tolerance.
Just so you know though, these cars are very sensitive to having the correct fluids in them so use each fluid for the following:
Hydraulic Fluid - G004000
Brake Fluid - A vareity of decent fluids can be used
Coolant - G12 plus (G12+)
Anyway, I hope that answers your question.

I know it's off topic but I'll add this in anyway..
If you use the wrong fluid for the Power Steering, it's entirely possible to bugger/seize the PAS pump.
Also, the G12+ coolant is nothing short of amazing. If some idiot decides to top up your coolant with a nasty mixture, it won't turn to sludge in your header tank or cooling system.

Thanks for the replies, I had been told by others it was something to do with brakes. The car recently passed its MOT with no advisories on brakes, and the brakes certianly feel fine when driving.
I'll try the little test you mention above, but do you happend to know if there is anyway of turning the beeping / warning light off?!?!
Thanks again, Nick

I fail to understand why you want to turn off a warning to a safety system before you have found out what the problem is!I'll try the little test you mention above, but do you happend to know if there is anyway of turning the beeping / warning light off?!?!

Your brakes are fitted for yours and others safety, the warning system is there to tell you that you could have a problem with your brakes. I would certainly get the problem sorted, or at least find out that your brakes are not affected, before you started tampering with bypassing the circuitry to turn the warnings off.
Just thinking of your safety

Noted chaps! Thanks for the concern! As I said this would just be a temp thing until the car goes in to be fixed, I probably won't be able to work out how to disconnect it myself anyway!
The brakes are fine on the car, having recently gone through an MOT, they have plenty of feel, no fade from speed and pull the car to a halt in a straight line.
Again, thanks for the advice and concern!
