Quick search would help - there have been half a dozen threads on this in the last month or so. Cheap by comparison to a more expensive car, more expensive than cheaper ones!

Are you thinking fuel costs, servicing or what?

Just bought a 2005/05 A8 3.0tdi a couple of months ago. Exceptionally good value for your £. I'm getting 30mpg in urban running, at least 40mpg on the motorway, and 33mpg on combined. Don't know about servicing costs yet, but would expect that some things that break would not be cheap to fix, although that would be rare given the quality of the car. I will be looking for an independent Audi specialist to maintain the car, rather than extortionately expensive main dealers with flash showrooms to support financially.

I too bought a 2005 3.0 TDI facelift A8 a couple of weeks back.

I have had the engine remapped at a cost of £300 + VAT. They quote increase of approx 40 bhp to approx 280 bhp. The car certainly feels much livelier, and MPG seems to have improved by about 4 mpg !
The remap appears to be a win win!

Personally I think the fuel economy is exceptional. 40-45 mpg on motorway, 25-30 town, 35-40 mpg on my combined route from Southport to St Helens (approx 25 miles and mix of urban and A roads)
