BGT Silverstone with a 1d mkI
Discussion
Some of mine
I decided to give my 1d mkI a try.
I bought it as a backup camera but its pretty good.
No real difference to the mkII's when your using it and I got a low usage minter for £400 ish,
I was using it all day on the same battery and its still got plenty of juce in it.
The only slight drawbacks are it can only take 2gb cards and only has the 1st gen of ETTL. Apart from that its spot on and the picture size is still 2/3 rds the size of the mkII.
Well worth thinking about I'd say.
Lens was a 100-400L.

Pretty good shots, mate.
Looks like the 100-400 is pretty ideal, focal-length wise. I am kind of on the lookout for one. Strangely they go on Ebay used for the same money as some dealers have them for new?
Can't beat the 1D build quality either: if anyone wants to nick it from you, you can hit them over the head with it...and I'd bet the 1D would still work!

Yep, all L glass holds its value well.
I was thinking of swapping the 100-400 for a 70-200 as I've got a big prime as well but it's very useful as a walk around lens.
It's not light by any means but its a fraction of the weight of a 300 f2.8.
It really is a bargain of the range. Gives stunning results and you get the IS for a lot less than the 70-200 f2.8 IS, plus the focal range is perfect for motorsports.
It's just the f4.5 - f5.6 that's a drawback in poor light.
Just watch out for the import duty / vat if you get one from HK.
I can't imagine it would be possible to hit someone hard enough with a 1d to actually break it, although no ones tried to rob me yet so I can't say for sure :-)
