Time to sell the S2

Hi guys,

I currently own an 1990 S2 which is currently sat at home in the garage as I am overseas for another 9 month deployment and am therefore not able to use the car. It is just out of MOT but went through the last with no advisories although the CO2 limit is nearing the acceptable limit but not bad considering the old school push rod V6. The chassis is rusting where the waxoyl has been worn away. The interior is fine and I like the combo of the white (ish) leather and walnut dash/wheel. It has just started to overheat slightly when standing (up to approx 100 depending on paralax error) but sits rock steady on a drive - I think it may be a siezed water pump but, again, I need to spend some time investigating. Other than that it is fine - it has a new roof and trailing arms, significant service history with plenty of dealer stamps. It is BRG withn a stainless exhaust. What price do you think I should sell for in current state and with an MOT? I know this is a subjective matter without seeing the car but I believe it to be a middle of the range example.

Terrible summer, coming up to winter, credit crunch etc

If you want to sell it around £3750, if you want to advertise it and not sell it, about £5000. There are a lot about at the moment.

Bad time of year - credit crunch - you are going to struggle to make what you think it is worth I reckon.
Those cars above remember are unsold. It's a buyers market and they can afford to be picky.

Personally, unless you are desperate for the cash leave it in the garage till you get back & enjoy it then.

Ive been following the prices of few cars and even ones that have held their prices traditionally (I've been watching Cobra replicas in particular) seem to be flagging.
I would hold on a while as well.I think the current petrol prices are also having an effect on sports car prices, most people I speak to are amazed at the mileage I get from the S, they seem to think 18-20 MPG would be about right for a TVR, I get about 29 on a run, a bit less normally which really isn't far from TRUE figures for a modern petrol saloon.

You could be right about holding onto the car. I have posted another topic about a suitable garage to take my car too to have a once over and see what work needs doing/is nice to do as the car is not concours but certainly useable. That said, I may need to swap for something slightly more practical as I will need a car to crack some large mileages as I have just moved house. If the garage recommends a large work package then it may be worth selling slightly cheaper to someone who may have more time to spend on restoration and enjoy the car. I am away fro 9 months of the year so only have a small window of opportunity - car is too good just to sit in the garage!
