I emailed a seller only to get a response along the lines of I am out of the country at the moment but I if you send the money to my agent I will ship the car over etc.

I replied to his email just out of curiosity and have managed to get his landline phone number.

Since I am 99.9% sure this is a scam is it worth giving the police the phone number so they can track him down?

Short answer. No.

Despite being in position to do something myself about on of these it was a fruitless pursuit.

IF he is traced there is nothing to say that he cannot claim it was above board.

Are you willing to risk sending the money to actually prove the offence?

At the moment if he was tracked the smart money would be on him being able to claim that nothing he has done is more than merely preparatory to an offence if any.

Measured by time against results I cannot imagine many forces running with this one. The more it happens the more there is a chance of a collective investigation like the unit at NSY that deals/logs the Nigerian Minister of Food/Head of a bank scams etc.

With mine I just registered him for cock enlargement emails.

Made me chuckle.

Ask him where the car is located and then let him know that by a serendipitous coincidence you just happen to be flying out there tomorrow for an Interpol anti-fraud committee meeting so you can pick it up at the same time wink

Back in my days of CRX ownership, a fellow owner was contacted by a scammer when trying to sell his car asking about any possible problems with it, as he had to come over from Nigeria or somewhere. The owner replied to his email telling the scammer that the car was in pretty good condition, but had a badly worn 'Bell-end', and that the 'Ring-piece' would need replacing for the next next MOT. The scammer then replied asking where he could acquire these parts rofl

Is it against forum rules to post your prospective customers Email address here?

I want to ask them if they know anything about radio telemetry used on single point moorings.
