Don't try to propel the kart using your feet on the floor.

Do some weight lifting before you go. Try to avoid skidding at all costs. Shove chewing gum into your opponents exhaust.

Jump up and down in the seat when you lose speed. Oh, and if MarioKart taught me anything, do this into corners as well......

shift your weight about going into corners, dont be tempted to slide it round corners and as i have found out, when you think you are going as fast as you can through corners, you're probably nowhere near fast enough

Keep the kart tight, never use the brakes when cornering, and above all, make the drive smooth.

Rule of thumb for karting - the people who look like they're out for a Sunday afternoon drive, are usually the people who are lapping fastest.

Failing that, do a Schumacher and ram the competition off the track if they try and overtake!

Or if you're on the heavy side (like me - last time I went karting, we worked out I had 2/3 of the power/kg of the next heaviest!), pick your track - such as outdoors in wet conditions, the extra weight gives you more grip

And practice makes perfect - also the Tommi Makkinen impressions are great fun, but on a good, dry track, they'll just lose you time

I'm normally a second or two off the pace, but that's the penalty you pay for being 115kg!

you know theres a karting event on at daytona on the 2nd of march organised here on pistonheads.com, friendly atmosphere, very reasonable price, 40 minute race after a 10 minute practice qualifying, 390cc thunderkarts, should be good for 65 mph and over a kilometre outdoor circuit rated as one of the best in the country..............

Fatboy - so it's not just a name then!

I too have experienced the sheer frustration of skinny ba5tards zipping around me on a kart circuit. Surely with so little power available, they should employ ballast as a way of equalising things out for us pie fans.

Instead of losing weight, why not force-feed every driver skinnier than yourself with pies, chocolate and beer?

I was about 80kg last time I looked, so I volunteer to be the test subject.

All the details are in this thread:

www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=5196&f=23&h=0

We're up to about a dozen people now. Glamourous prizes will be on offer from PistonHeads (well maybe a pie holder or some clothing).

It will be nice just to fill the car park with exotica

Or you could enter a series with a weight limit to even out the feild. This year in Club100's endurance series you have to weigh over 75KG or add lead weight so you come up the that weight. it makes it a more level playing feild.
