As quite a few PHers have offered help to the guys at TVR Power with the clean up, it makes sense to try and co-ordinate this in one place, so I've created this thread.

MrsFlipFlopGriff has kindly offered to liaise with Dom until he has access to the net again, and what we propose is that she lists any help that Dom needs on here, and we can then match that up with offers of assistance to try and avoid 100 people turning up en masse with assorted brooms and paintbrushes!

When we put up a post asking for assistance for specific things, it would be helpful if you could PM me with details of the assistance you can give so as not to clog up this thread.

When you send me a PM, please include your name (PH and real world!), together with contact details (email and contact numbers).

Many thanks.

There is no need for a band of well meaning "bodge it" cleaners.

TVR Power would be totally inadvised to accept such offers of help.

No cleaning can be done until the insurance assessors have carried out their work.

Then TVR Power's insurers will appoint properly qualified and experienced "disaster recovery" cleaners and contractors who will do the job correctly and safely. Their training and experience will determine what can be saved, what can be cleaned and what needs to be disposed of and how it should be handled.

Others, from the fire service etc. have posted in this forum about how toxic the waste is and the residual fumes. The "bodge its" will have neither the equipment, nor experience, nor the training to know how to handle or dispose of this waste.

TVR Power would then be liable for any injuries suffered by "bodge its" and for the loss that they caused in failing to dipose of the waste properly.

If your local supermarket burned down would you offer to help clean up? Would you be allowed? Of course not.

Are you all going just to "rubber neck"?

It's just a garage. They will be insured. Leave it to the professionals and avoid getting injured or causing more harm than good.

I don't think rubber necking is in the equation, just a few keen to see the business preserved. I agree the initial clean should be professional but to get Power up and running sooner rather than later (ie waiting months for insurance assessors to twiddle their moustaches) then the help is a good idea imo.
Very good to see so much support for Dom and the guys as Power did build the vast majority of our engines.

Oooh you know how to win friends and influence people hehe

Leave it to the professionals, toxic waste. Have you ever lived in a real world environment or are you quoting from a noddy book on political correctness?

People want to help, maybe they don't know how, but your comments aren't very helpful.

To clear things up ...

We're very conscious of the health and safety aspects of any clean-up operation. And that's one of the reasons we don't want 100 or so bods turning up with brushes and brooms i.e. that was meant to be the point of this thread.

There are also some types of help that have nothing to do with the physical clearing of the site.

An offer of help for storage space for cars/parts/machinery has already been forthcoming (and yes due consideration will be given to the transfer of any hazardous material - for example, to move hazardous waste you have to have a waste transfer license).

There may also be a need for the loan of computer equipment, telephones, faxes etc, just basic things that might help Power keep trading in the interim.

We're not talking Bodgit And Scarper here, we're talking co-ordinated, structured help.

Appreciate your comments because there is nothing more important the health, safety and welfare of people, but perhaps your sentiment came across a little off-centre.

Thanks anyway.

Leave it to the insurers and loss adjusters. That is their role.

TVR Power are likely to have business interruption cover. Therefore it is in the interests of the insurers etc to get the business running again.

They will arrange storage for cars, checks to see that the building is structually safe etc.

They have contracts with companies who can provide server space, computer use, temporary office and storage space.

If others start interfering, at worst, it might affect the insurance cover and at best it will slow the process down because the insurers/adjusters and professional cleaners will not know who is doing what. Why do their jobs for them?

They work at their best when they are left to get on with it.

Although I agree Red Tuscan's initial post was a bit derogatory of the help offered, assuming Dom has 'loss of profit' insurance, then Red Tuscan is spot on. It will be in the insurers interest to get Dom back on his feet as soon as possible. And the insurers will pay for everthing to be done. BUT insurers can work slowly at times, so even having said the above, I dont see they will be back for a little while yet. But here's hoping for a speedy recovery, and I suspect they will be back better than ever!!!

Ok - I'll be a little more to the point.

People feel for Dom and the team at TVR Power and want to help in any way that we can. If you don't want to then that's your call. This thread is to ensure we co-ordinate that help in a structured manner, taking into account ALL of the legals, H&S etc etc but rest assured there is a constructive role for the community in all this.

You're entitled to your opinions and clearly you must think we're all a bunch of bodgit's, novices, rubber-kneckers and/or noddies. You've made your point but this thread is for co-ordinating assistance for Power.

While i have no doubt you are correct Red Tuscan rolleyes

Can you not see that this a typical example of the TVR Spirit that is shown when one of our own is inflicted with this awful kind of situation yes

To me it is like being a member of one large family and as such we will all pull together to help each other out.

Fair play to those who want to help but it would ultimately be up to the likes of Dom and his insures.

Can you not understand Red Tuscan that its the offer of help that gets folks through times like this and shows support to the people perhaps in need of help weather they choose to accept it or not !

No I cannot see the point Pasco, sorry. If it was about helping a neighbour erect a fence that had blown down in a storm, yes I could see the point and I would help.

Would I help my neighbour who was insured, where the insurers would pay for contractors to erect the fence? No I would not.

Would I get in the way of the insurers and their contractors? No I would not.

TVR Power is a business. It is not the local scout-hut that has burned down.

As for using this thread to co-ordinate a help, Mrs FF Griffith. Do not bother. TVR Power and their insurers will not be in a position to accept the offered help for the reasons stated in my earlier posts.

RedTuscan, I think you've made your point now, however I know of at least one PHer who is up there today helping them out, so you are not correct in saying that they will not be in a position to accept help, and I'm sure that they are very grateful for the help offered so far.

I would suggest that if Dom wants to take people up on their offers of help (via MrsFlipFlopGriff, who has been in contact with him about this), it will be down to him and not you, so can we please now let the thread get back on track?

What right do you have ehasler to decide what "track" this thread it to take?

If the insurers, the Health & Safety Executive and the Environmental Health Department of the local council discover that people who are not even employees of TVR Power are interferring in a contaminated site, for which they are neither trained, experienced nor have the correct protective equipment, then matter could be serious.

Such people should be asked to leave immediately.

Why is the assumption being made that people will be coming into the building? Can you lend me a PC? Do you have a printer I can borrow? It is all help and your H&S hijack is rather boring now your valid point was made.

I started this thread, so I think I'm entitled to request that it not go off on a tangent wink

Have you actually read any of the posts above??

This isn't about sending in hoards of people to the site unannounced - it's to enable TVR Power to take people up on their offers of help, which may simply be the loan of phones/fax machines and computer equipment to enable them to get back in contact with the outside world and their customers.

You obviously don't agree with this, however it's not up to you and is down to Dom to act on if he desires.

You will probably find that it is not up to TVR Power but their insurers.

Anyway, I am jetting off for the weekend as usual, so I will leave you to your forum.

I hope that you and your boy scouts enjoy your weekend in Coventry clearing up toxic waste and breathing in toxic fumes.

I know where I would rather be.
