A mate of mine has Rockband and all the equipment to go with it. Played it for the first time over the weekend and thought it was pretty good. Definitely a good laugh if you've got a group of people round.

Is it worth actually buying, or does the novelty wear off pretty quickly?

If ya mate lives close hes gonna need people to play all the other instruments. I know a couple of mates who have it and kinda rely on the fact myself and other peeps dont, so that we can all "jam" often. If we all owned it, it defeats the point of meeting up and playing. Its a bit of a novelty but if youre willing to invest in the downloadable tracks (of which there are LOADS of good tunes) then the new tunes keep it fresh.

Verdit: Dont buy it, party round your mates more often. Buy/split cost of new tracks. Everyones a winner.

I bought it, and love it.

If theres doubt then don't buy it. But theres no better party/drinking game in my opinion.

I have bought loads of extra tracks for it too.

The Knack - My Sharona
Boston - More than a feeling
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Snow (hey oh) and Dani California
Oasis - Dont look back in anger, Wonderwall, the 3rd one cant remember
Wolfmother - The joker and the thief
Trex? - Bang a gong.
The Who - Baba O riley, my generation, behind blue eyes, who are you
and several others...

I fail to see how this is better than learning to play the real thing..?

The only noisy instrument to learn would be drums, and even that can be overcome. Plus it's cooler. wink

This: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pnH8nImIx2I&fea... is all well and good, but if you can do that, then you could probably kick arse on these:

and do it properly..!

Lol! I actually found the drums the hardest (no comment on singing). And I suppose once you get your confidence up on these you can try the real thing.

Almost gives you the impression that you could, quite possibly, be good at playing a musical instrument :-p

I guess the difference is degrees of how good you are..!

I would play a racing game quite happily because I suppose I have no chance of ever getting to drive those cars on those tracks in my lifetime. To a wealthy and talented driver, it's nothing compared to actually going and doing in real life.

On the other hand, I've played drums for 20-odd years, so to see people 'practising' so hard for 'fake' drums etc is disheartening. If you're able to master it to the degree that some of these chaps appear to have, then I'd be encouraging them to pick up some sticks for real as they obviously have a good sense of timing and ability required of a drummer.

Dammit though, I REALLY want that Roland electronic kit now. Grr. biggrin

I got this yesterday evening, with the full instrument pack.....OMG...Four of us ended up playing it until 02:30hrs!

Its a great laugh. Seems almost impossible in Hard or Expert mode, at the moment though. I am hoping i improve enough to be able to master them eventually.

I have it and I know someone that plays the drums and they said it's a good way to learn.

I did music at school.. trumpet/Cornet/French Horn & voice so I've got a good ear for music but it's certainly fun and I've not got past medium yet.. Top party game..recommend

Guitar Hero: World Tour is meant to be note for note accurate on drums on expert, ie if you can 100% a song on the drums playing expert level, you'll be able to replicate that same song on a real life drumkit!

Not really. That's like saying I can lap the 'Ring perfectly on my PS3 and then do it in real life..

Well not really, you have a pretty much full drum kit in Guitar Hero, whereas you don't have a completely accurate version of the 'ring on any game, nor do you have a real car to simulate the stresses and control needed. Trying to compare a music game that is very similar to real life (at least with the drums) to a racing game is like the proverbial chalk and cheese.

Guitar Hero : World Tour is a new game coming soon.

The good news for those people that forked out for the 'band in a box', you will have out of date equipment very soon frown

New drums look awesome though smile Google them as internet lockdown at work prevents me from getting a link, and yes, I have found a back door to get onto PH, lol....

I think 'four pads and a foot pedal' is pushing the 'full drumkit' description a little. As a drummer (used to a 6-piece kit, hi-hat and 5 cymbals) I think I'd find it hard to adapt.

It's a nice idea, but as a musician I guess I'm just a little sad that people will spend hours learning to play a fake plastic instrument when they could be learning to play a real one.

Tbh playing drums in a band has no interest for me, that's why I'd like the gameplay experience of GH:WT, also, I'm sure a full drumkit will cost a lot more than £150 or however much GH:WT will end up costing...

The point I was making is that the technology has come on to a stage whereby it's alleged to be almost the same technique and talent to complete the game on the hardest level, with 100% accuracy as it is to actually play the instrument in real life...

Better instrument pack, and backward compatible with RB1 songs and DLC
Gives it the edge over GH:WT IMO

Fair enough, but I was just trying to make the point that the Xbox/PS3 will do a much better job of simulating a drum kit than it will a car on full attack at the 'ring.
