...and pulled the trigger on a Nikon D80 that came with the Nikkor 18-135mm and 70-300mm lenses.

Have to be honest and say that I've been quite inspired by the recent competitions on here, started to look around a bit and decided that while I love my P&S - it's time to move up and see if I can start to become more creative.

I know I have a hell of a lot to learn and I have a holiday back in the UK coming up that is going to take us from Yorkshire to Cornwall, so I'll have plenty of subject matter to have a play with.

Excellent!.

I've had an EOS400 for about 6 months now and still getting to grips with it. My sis took the plunge with a D80 not so long ago and I've been using that today, much different to mine and a very nice camera.

Enjoy working it all out, practice practice and more practice makes not perfect but better than any point and shoot!.

You'll know you're getting better your ratio of 'keepers' starts to catch up with the amount of 'binners'.

Looking forward to the practice bits - I travel quite a bit and there's some interesting stuff around the Middle East for photo ops.

Would love to get some dusk or dawn shots out in the desert as well.

Excellent, now you have to promise never to put it into full auto...

Look forward to seeing some results.

smile I fully agree with that - already not bothered with that. the 'P' setting is the worse I'll do - I really want to learn my apertures, ISOs, shutter speeds & exposures.
