I always have a bottle of this handy. My dad made it when I was a kid and I've always ensured I have some in the kitchen.

You need:

1 bottle of ketchup
1 bottle of apricot jam
4 birdseye chillies (or whatever you like)

Stick the chillies in a blender. When they're it tiny bits, stick in the ketchup and jam!

Job's a good un.

It makes a good dipping suace, good with sausages, chips just about everything. Also a very good ingredient for chilli stirfries.

erm, wouldn't bottles of ketchup and jam & a bag of chillies cost more to buy than a 75cl bottle of "Healthy Boy" or similarly delicious ready made sauce from the oriental supermarket?

Besides, Ketchup is a condiment, not an ingredient.

Ever buy Chinese takeaway? They use HP sauce in a few dishes. Not all ingredients are used in their most basic forms.

Many top chefs use Ketchup as an ingredient, don't really see what's wrong with that if it enhances the overall dish to be honest.

That sounds like a wonderful quick fix when disaster strikes and you've run out of sweet chilli sauce. My nextdoor neighbour at home makes a wonderful apricot jam, so can't wait to try this!

Found out on holiday that to make a great and quick curry sauce, just mix curry powder in with ketchup - job done! You can heat it too if you like. Wouldn't have belived it if I hadn't have seen it done!

TBH its probably easier to buy the 38p Asda pots as I go rather than outlay a few quid on ingredients and have them lying about.

It would be easier, but more expensive. Asda's 38p pot is 42p/100g, to make the sauce costs 20p/100g. I wouldn't have the ingredients lying about as I don't use ketchup for anything else. It's the sauce of the devil.

For the quantity I use it's not worth the hassle to make in bulk and store to save a few pennies.
That wingyipstore looks great, I may order a few odds and bobs from there for the kitchen.

That Wing Yip Store is fabulous, it's like Christmas when your order comes. I spend on average 20-25 when I place an order and it comes in a big box with everything individually wrapped like a lucky dip. Often they add random items in for you to try too.

Great for Christmas pressies for family members who are hard to buy for - tea sets, bamboo steamers and wok sets have all been given in our family biggrin

The best sweet chilli sauce is "Cock Brand" if you can find it.

Ha sweet chili sauce. People must bathe in the stuff here, in all the stores, on half the food...

Nice but it does get a bit old if overused.
