Yes, They dont give a ****, I have 3 cars, could not get any help with one company covering all 3. seeing as I cant possible drive more than one at a time they are complete Bastards, I have 3 seperate policies, and 2 seperate no claims (1 car on classic insurance)

I've just been trying it myself, and can only get a "group" insurance for classic cars. They won't touch anything fast or sporty unless it's classed as a classic. I presented the same arguments about only driving one, but they weren't interested. It's a bit silly really that you could include a 1960's Griffith 400 in a group, but you can't include a modern Griffith 500 which is arguable much safer and probably worth the same money. (not that I have either - but you see my point !) sjm

The really annoying thing is that they insist that NCD applies only to the car and not the driver, hence you can't apply NCD to 2 cars unless you've had 2 policies running. I bet that if you prang one of them you still get loaded on the other policy.

When I bought my first TVR in 1998, I rang A1 insurance brokers, and they agreed to match my NCD from my other car. I ended up with 2 policies (with 2 different companies), but at least I got the advantage of a second full NCD. The only proviso was that I wasn't allowed to protect it for the first year. James

I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels like I may as well be speaking in Japaneese to insurance companies. Tell me if i'm talking out of my 'exit hole' here, but I've got a few freinds who are pilots, one a captain for a comercial airline in the UK , one flys a chopper in Aus. But the way it works for them is the amount of time (in hours) in the air, regardless of what in - as long as their current licence covers it. Why can't the NC bonus rule with car insurance work the same way? If only the insurance companies would treat us like pilots, we'd then have our 'normal' cars milage taken into consideration. I'd previously had company cars for 8 years, and because of also always having another car of my own (but with classic car insurance, limit on miles/and gaining no NC bonus in doing so) I'd always driven the company car with some respect,in my driving, accidents, etc, unlike your usual company car drivers. If only the insurance companies would take into count the amout of accident-free miles that each of us do, regardless of what car we drive, then maybe they'd stop quoting us for car insurance as if we're all a bunch of plebs. That way the people who have less accidents per mile would have cheaper insurance, rather than everyone suffer due to the minority that are hopless drivers/have accidents, causing the rest of us higher premiums. If you've not gathered already, this really does p*ss me off. I'll get me coat, Dave.

Correct me if I`m wrong, but I was told ( By an Insurance Co ) that if I where to crash my car ( Heaven Forbid ) then I would lose any NCD on that car, and if I had another policy, I would no longer have NCD on that either, as I have claimed on the other policy ? Basically they are an Insurance Co. and it is their jobs to get as much money out of us while paying out as little as possible. Edited by Jason F on Friday 5th January 08:58

Jason, That's the nub of it basically, If it wasn't a legal requirement to have insurance (and I know it would be absolute madness not to) I don't think they'd be able to get away with it. Dave.
