Black tie or coloured?
Discussion
When an invitation specifies "Black Tie", a black suit should be worn which consists of a double or single-breasted black jacket with ribbed silk or satin-faced lapels, and trousers with a single braid or satin stripe down the outside leg. A white tuxedo jacket is normally worn in warmer climates and these days would be perfectly acceptable on a Mediterranean cruise or at a summer dance.
A Marcella or pleated white shirt with a classic or wing collar is worn with a black bow tie. More vivid waistcoats, cummerbunds and bow ties can be worn for parties, evening weddings and dances.
Shoes and socks should be black.

Cufflinks and a black bow tie...
Making sure the tie is a tie it yourself one and not an elasticated pre-done one.. Very, very sexy on a man.
Would any of us seriously consider anything other than a proper bow tie?
As for cufflinks.. Tricky.. Will depend to some extent on the watch I choose.. If I go for the Longines then it will have to be the Gold and Onyx cufflinks. OTOH, the Raymond Weil only matches with Silver or Platinum.. Of course, if I got for a different set of cufflinks, I'll need to buy a new watch, (Got nothing that matches the Jade pair.. )
You see, its tricky for us chaps too..

Anyone know how to tie a proper bow tie?
Yes, just like a shoe lace, but around your neck. If you have a boot lace or something that is long enough and can tie it around your neck, thats a good way to learn. The trick with a real tie is to do it with the body of the tie as loose as possible to get the bow right, then tighten it up from the back.
Lessons are available on the night, at a cost of 1 pint each.
It is sometimes more preferable to play the strategic incompetence line and get a young lady to help you
Edited to add: Beat me to it.. That looks about right. Remember to remove it afterwards though else it will give the game away and you will loose several James Bond cool points.

Tosh. I have a range of bow-ties both do it youself and elasticated jobbies. My favourite? The elasticated jobby. You just can't tell from a decorous distance and its so much more convenient.
Cufflinks are a must though. I shall be wearing Concorde cufflinks as a gesture of respect to the passing of such a great piece of engineering...
