You drive a Trevor and you're calling me thick??!!

Blimey....
This came from a spat in the Speed, plod and the law section between Forza and TVRMoneypit. It's not unusual to read quite a few angry posts there. It seems Forza didn't like being called thick by TVRMoneypit, naturally, but I didn't know owning a TVR carried an image of being thick!! Maybe it was just a deperate attempt to insult Moneypit's obvious favourite car.

Does owning a TVR convey with the public the image that the owner is lacking in some other department? I thought TVR's were thought of more kindly by GP than with other flash cars eg Porsche etc.

Hmm I mostly get smiled at in the TVR, I always thought it was because they liked the car.
Maybe in light of this it's a sympathetic smile because they think I need encouragement in lfe hehe

Whether he's bright or not, the comment still says more about him than it does about any TVR owner.

I think there is a 'Meathead' association that some people have between TVRs and their owners. A bit like having a pitbull dog.

I do not subscribe to this.

Forza is wrong as well. TVRMo.. doesn't drive a TVR, he's merely an owner.

Just read the thread and looked at his profile, strong smell of Pork in there so he's bound to hate TVRs isn't he? hehe

Without wanting to move that discussion over here I agree with TVRMoneypit, punch first ask questions later. Forza White obviously hasn't come across many modern day 12 yo ruffians recently, I assume he still thinks they're happy with riding their push bikes out into the country and catching tadpoles in jam jars like they did in the Famous Five.wink

I believe TVR owners simply want something different, and perhaps a little 'edgy', and that is probably where any similarity ends.

I've met owners from every walk of life, so stereotyping is pointless.

I do get irritated by some newer model 'owners' (of whatever make) with their superior attitude, when actually their car is owned by a finance company.hehe

Just checked his profile to discover that its more than just a strong smell.

My orignial point of this post was to see what knowledge, experiences, TVR owners have about the thoughts and thinking that the general public regarding TVR owners. Is it like other sports cars or are TVR owners in some way exempt from the flash git type of thinking? If they are exempt is that because TVR's are special even to the average memberr of the GP? Personally, I was surpised that being 'thick' was associated by GP with owning a TVR, but then Forza, it seems, is far from an average guy.

Well to take this back to your original question I've never had anything (apart from one spitting environmentalist cyclist) but positive reactions to the TVR. In fact I came out of a meeting last week to find two Uni Students filming the Griff for a piece on 'Urban Street Art' they were doing smile
I've lost count of the number of windows that have been wound down as I passed and always with the accompanying thumbup

At least all TVR owners seem to be grinning when driving their cars. Porsche is becoming like BMW, an upper market snobby car which has little character. Least TVRs are real.

i would like to add to this debate when a young lady hit my p&j up the arse and it went in for repair they offered me a hairdressers porker which i turned down .(bald bloke in boxter i dont think so!!) i opted for a 320cls merc which was one of the best cars ive ever driven (comfort etc) then came london thunder i needed something a bit sportier ,no tivs im afraid but they offered me a camman (cant spell it ,such a lasting memory) nice looking car , i think better than 911 but what a heap of **** driving position off center, engine noise harsh in the back of your head, no space, uncomfotable ride ,not as fast as chim, snide looks from most drivers ,when im in my chim i get so many comments from drivers /pedestrians "nice car mate , rev it up mate " and i enjoy driving it which is as far as im concerned what owning a sports car is all about! if you want a run of the mill car get a porker !.

a friend of mine who is a car dealer (top end stuff) has many sports cars go through his hands ,no big deal , rang me and told me that he was getting a cerb as part exchange in a couple of days and couldnt sleep ! 3 months on he still has it as his personal runn around hes sold a few porkers and other sports cars in between time ! means something doesnt it driving a tiv!!!!!!!!!!!

But what does it mean exactly and why is it not the same as Porsche and other sports cars? I am just curious to know what the general public think and if I am bothered or not.

Most negative comments I get are about the car and not the owner eg 'is that a kit car?'..... groan, and 'have any bits fell off?'....double groan,,,,there could be a bit of truth in that wink but TVR is possibly no worse than other cars. No one has said wcensoredker to my face yet, although someone did decide to kick in the door one day when it was brand new. My Dad also had vandal problems with his brand new Ford so maybe it was a problem with the car being new rather than it being a TVR,,,,, or maybe both rolleyes
