Most of the motor trade is on its knees. Locally we have had Saab/Chevrolet, Mitsubishi, Suzuki and a Toyota dealer close in the last 6 months. My friends MG restoration business is OK at the moment but he hasn't sold many cars this summer.

Don't go and look at the current value of your newish 'executive' car esp SUVs like X5, Q7 or Range Rover unless you want to cry.

Doesn't look like getting better soon either

mmm. Many auctions end early with behind the scenes negotiation. This time the guy has decided to select the option of ending the auction by selling to the highest bidder. Seems a bit silly really as he now has to pay a final value fee on that amount. I would think that the actual amount that changed hands was significantly more than that. Perhaps he was looking for some form of security?

He's even used the same photographs as on ebay. Somehow that seems to be rubbing salt into the wound.

Well it's not exactly for doing nothing, he had to get to Scotland and drive it back which costs time and money, and now he has the risk of it not selling for several weeks/months, though it does look like a tidy example and should sell relatively quickly.

Why do people in this country despise people who make a profit unless it is them? For all we know the original seller may be happy with the price (if indeed it sold for the hammer price which we don't know) and everyone in the deals is happy.

When I sold my Taimar, I could have got more if I broke the car for parts, but I wanted shot of it in one go, it went for a reasonable price to a trader, who then did a similar thing, sorted out the basic car and sold it on, everyone was happy with the deal.

I think it'll still sell with a '5' at the front of the asking price. The guy saw a bargain and took the risk, good luck. I'm sure the guy in Scotland is happy, otherwise he would have been asking for more!

Eh - when I offer a price for a car I usually offer less than the asking price... Is that where I've been going wrong?

what i was trying to point out was that the 'new seller' could of offered the car for 5K+, in an attempt to make more than 2K margin.

What the hell has it got to do with anyone what he paid.

Dont be so petty, get your snout out.

The guys found a way of earning a few quid, legally, so shut up with the whinging and go back to your knitting or train spotting.

Totally agree with Pistolar

It's not our business what he paid nor what he sold it for.

And the originally seller just needs to let go, he got a price for the car which he accepted.

Off Topic a bit, but wasn't there a story once that Nigel Mansell sold a road going Ferrari he owned, then the guy he sold it too sold it on for a nice profit on the back of it being owned by 'our Nige', Nigel then had a whinge about it.
