Steering Bush (again) and cowling

My steering column has a significant amount of play as a result of excessive play in the steering column bulkhead hush (plastic version). I am considering getting this to replace it....

Has anybody fitted one? Good/Bad? How much play is there once fitted (i.e. is it going to fix my problem?)

Secondly, whats the steering cowling off (the horrible rattly plastic one)? Fiesta?

Hi Mike - I saw that but wondered if it was only a four bolt mounting instead of the std 5 or is there a flat cutting off one bolt on the mounting ? I also need to replace mine but have more pressing problems at the moment

If nobody has fitted one I'll give TVR Car Parts a call. I don't mind a bit of modification to make it work, I just wondered if it was actually any good.

Isn't it a ford escort item?
Mk4 I think, may be mk3 aswell.
Worth taking the part to ford dealer to see if you can get one - will be cheaper I would imagine.

Steering cowl is of a Ford Sierra, still available from main dealers about £20 - £25 for both parts. The steering bush is only four bolts but they line up with four of the existing five holes, direct replacement and will totally transform the feel of the steering (for the better).

I fitted that very part only a few months ago - October last year to be exact. There's a mention of it on my web site on Oct 27th, but I followed the advice on pies site at [url]www.tvrsseries.com[/url. There's an external link that tells you all you need to know.

I read the guide on Pies site (cheers Andrew and Colin)and have printed it off fo the day, but I was thrown by the picture on TVRCarparts site which only showed four of the five bolts...
I've just ordered the bit and got a call from Neil before I had even printed the receipt off - he offered to save me money by posting the part instead of overnighting it... Nice one Neil - thanks to you as well

I changed my column bush a couple of years back and the one I fitted was all alluminium so it shouldn't wear out as quick - it also came from TVR carparts £34.00.

My housing had 5 bolts, so I made a bush out of alluminium and used captive studs so I could just put the nuts on in engine bay, I also made a alluminium disc for the engine bay side to give it more strenght.
I used a stainless steel bearing aswell so it should last years

I need to do mine as well, I just tried to order via internet but do not want to pay £8.99 + vat for carriage, so I will ring them up and try and do it by post instead. So thanks again for the advice it has helped me too.
