Hi,

Does anyone know who or where I can obtain the parts to convert my throttle linkage to a straight slot, as mine is still the 'J' shaped one and I’m getting a lot of lag during the first half of movement in the go-go juice pedal. If anyone has experience in making the part, could you let me know how i can do the same.

Thank you in advance.

You can still pick them up in scrapyards on Scorpio's IIRC - Guigliemi - Coventry ? (probably wrong spelling) did them for about £30 I think. do a search as this was discussed a few months ago. I have to say I got one and it does make a difference...

good luck

Hi,

I'm not sure where an original 'straight slot' throttle plate can be sourced, but coincidentally one year ago today I got the following message from Guglielmi Motorpsort Ltd:

Hi Graham
The price including P&P and VAT is £52.88 and we have them in stock ready for dispatch.
If you would like to go ahead and purchase one then please contact me on the number below.
Best wishes and kind regards

I decided that was too expensive, so I welded and re-shaped my own. I can thoroughly recommend it - improves throttle response no end.

Graham, thats great info. That does seem a lot for a relativly small peice of metal. How would i go about creating one myself? Does the slot basically start and finish in the same place, just in a straight line and opposed to a curve?

Cheers

This is basically what I did:

It seems to have done the job...

Some say if you weld slowly with plenty of cooling time it doesn't destroy the plastic bush. I didn't rely on this so I measured up the plastic bit, cut it out and made a substitute in brass, which I brazed in place.

Here it is ...

A year ago I was a new TVR owner, and the throttle response was probably top of the list of (many) things to, along with finding a steering wheel that allowed me to see the instruments...

a rather nice period Momo originally destined for a Porsche. But I digress...

PM me if you want to know more.
Regards,
Graham

Not quite sure what you mean Kevin. I don't know what an original spring looks like, if that's not what I've got. However, the one fitted clearly has a fairly large diameter and lots of turns, which makes it a low spring rate (unless it's a heavy gauge wire, which it isn't), so I don't quite see what you're getting at. Anyway, throttle tension seems fine to me.

By the way, who/what is Garth??

I bought a second hand engine from an Xr4i which had the straight slot bracket on it so it may be worth contacting some of the ford breakers on ebay etc, otherwise at the prices being quoted for a bit of bent plate I would be tempted to make one as per Ragtop's idea.

Aye, and I nearly said Charles Atlas !!!

It wasnt intended as a criticism by the way, just an observation as the original springs do rub and wear through so an alternative is always interesting... as you say, provided the spring is not too strong it will do just fine where you have it... I was pulling your leg about "Garth" matewink

I made a spring to the original style for mine as although mine was broke I could still see its shape... heres mine:

yikes

Well worth doing the mod. Having had it done myself it may still be worth the above cost but not if you can make it yourself wink

Edited to say it was nowhere near £52.88 when I had mine done, thankfully!

Hi, having all the tools required to do a DIY job on this, including a milling machine i will be attemping to do this in the next week or so.

One thing i have notice is that alot of initial pedal movement is taken up by the fact that the slot is too big for the bush it operates, so i will correct this as well, i will also remove the plastic bush and spin a brass one up on the lathe.

For anybody that is intersted, if it doesn't take too long, i would be prepared to alter yours for a small consideration.

Simon, I can do the welding/grinding myself but don't have access to a lathe so if you could do me a bush I would be grateful. email me on mark@gbsportscar.com and we can discuss the small consideration/addresses to send to etc.

Cheers

I'm afraid I have no idea. I never imagined it was anything other than standard, although on reflection it doesn't look 17 years old:

It wasn't until I took this photo earlier that I realised the lower spring was broken! Perhaps that explains the upper spring. Having looked at the few photos I can find of other S throttle assemblies, I can't see an upper spring on any of them, although the spindle plates are clearly designed to accept a spring, and the one on mine seems to be a perfect length and rate. Perhaps one or other of the Sierras had a spring fitted here, although why it would be excluded by TVR is difficult to imagine.
Perhaps it's just another TVR mystery...

Mr Tozerman, Thank you. Part fitted and very happy with the result.

Although, it still seems to want to stumble when i touch the throttle?

Any ideas??

Glad you got the part ok Ian, I used to have a similar problem with my car, in the end all that was wrong with it was the plug gaps were all over the place and once they were regapped all was solved.
Cheers.....Tony..
