Desperation - Camera rental places?
Discussion
Hey Everyone,
I am now a bit desperate, packaged up the 40d ready to be repaired but it will take around 2 weeks (i think) and im going to the motorshow this year and won't have a camera. Can anyone recommend camera rental places local to bristol, or not local but willing to deliver the camera? I have looked at hireacamera.com but the deposits are a bit wild!
ETA - looking to hire canon
Thanks
Leighton

Calumet ( http://www.calumetphoto.co.uk/rental) are in Bristol, and if you're hiring for a week or more you can access their entire UK stock, rather than just what's kept locally.
If you don't have an account they'll want a deposit though.

Ex-colleagues of mine used to swear by Fixation for lens hire (we were round the corner from them), they might do bodies as well.
Other wise there's this posting from here ...

If it were me I'd try to pick up a cheap compact. At least that'll be useful in the future.
Let's face it, unless you're getting special access to something that the general public can't get to, you'll just be taking the same shots as 100's if not 1000's of others are. I'm not saying your shots won't be great, but in the run of things they won't get you any money, so the rental costs are just for your own album in reality.
It's annoying that your body went down, but is it REALLY worth spending up to £100 (or more) on this?

As annoying as your situation is, i think you might be better off getting something you could re-sell and get the majority of your money back from. For example:

ok Big thanks to everybody! especially thatphilbrett guy and miniman! Thank you so much for the kind offer miniman, i really dont want the responsibility! i have had time to think it over and i am going to use my sisters canon ixus 75 (meh) and a kodak p880. Bit of a pain in the ass but i had emailed head honcho of dixons, John claire, demanding an exchange so all is not lost.
Thanks again

Thanks for that Tony, i did call calumet this morning but they only had a 5D available, for 120 quid for the day and a 1250 pound deposit! If you don't have an account they'll want a deposit though.

Honestly it's not a problem, it's covered on my house insurance anyway. It's just sat here gathering dust at the moment. Anyway, entirely your call but just shout if you want to use it. leightonjames said:
Just tried, apparently after 28 days it goes straight to the manufacturer.
I've had all sorts exchanged after 28 days. Most memorable was a fridge-freezer belonging to my sister that packed up after 6 weeks or so. I shoved it in the back of the van and wheeled it back into Comet on a trolley. I then made it clear i wasn't leaving until they sorted it out.Being polite but stubborn always pays off

Nope, your contract is with the shop. Google 'sale of goods act' and then speak to a manager. Dixons HAVE to sort this out for you!Dear Mr Clare,
Recently I purchased a digital SLR camera from Dixons online. The cost of this item was £850. I have had the item for six weeks and yesterday the product registered an error. I have called numerous companies to try and find out what the problem is and it is a serious error that requires a complete overhaul. The product is therefore registered as faulty. I rely on this product for my business and I have an event in one week’s time. Therefore repair is not going to be an option as turnaround time for canon is 2-4 weeks. I am extremely disappointed that a product which I put a lot of time and effort into being able to afford has broken at such a crucial moment. I have called three of your customer service representatives who say “it’s beyond the 28 day allowance and needs to be serviced” the law clearly states that the responsibility lies with the retailer, not the manufacturer. It also states that if a fault appears in the first six months, or what the law supersedes to be a reasonable amount of time, and it's not because of fair wear and tear, accidental damage or misuse, then the retailer must still repair or replace the item. I am hoping that you can resolve this extremely frustrating situation for me.
Wheres the nearest dixons store to clevedon, considering they closed one third of their branches
