Apparently Autobild Magazine in Germany has been running a Golf turbodiesel on cooking oil for over 100000k in a controlled test, with no problems.Has anyone tried this in this country?

The good people at Sharwoods Pickles run their trucks on the oil that they've cooked their poppadoms in... The stuff is technically known as BioDiesel.

Myself and my collegue make about 160 litres per week to run our van & car, using used cooking oil and it costs us 6p per litre to make. It gives the same power as normal diesel. between us we have probably totted up 3000 miles+ on the stuff with no ill effects. We do have a website to show you how to do it but I don't have the URL handy at the moment. Edited by johnhiggs on Monday 29th January 20:20

Did you see that thing on the telly about those eco-rebels on a mining island somewhere hot? They fermented coconut milk and stuck in the jeeps etc that were left by the mining comany, worked a treat - even smelt like the body shop when it drove past.

This one maybe? It's advertising a book for full info but gives you the basic idea... http://www.veggievan.org/book/bookfaq.html These folks sell it ready made in bulk (1000l), although it's more expensive than pump diesel unless you only want it for off road... http://www.edieselfuel.co.uk/e-diesel1.htm Regards, Adrian (no connection, just playing with search engines)

our website for biodiesel is www.veggiepower.org.uk, it shows you how to make a mixer and a recipe for the stuff.

When I had my van MOT'd it was running on veggie diesel and the emmisins were 0.75%. The legal limit is2.5%, so It does give out less harmfull emmisions. Edited by johnhiggs on Wednesday 7th February 22:54
