Ok so went to the ferrari fun day today in newbury, was a fantastic day and took a lot of pictures around 1,500. Then towards the end (luckily, if you can draw any luck out of this) my camera read error 99 whenever i tried to take a picture, it took a picture fine on live view until after a short while a much brighter bar was at the bottom of the image. This happened as i managed to sit inside the 599 and the f430 but not being able to take many pictures because of the error.

Just waiting for my camera to rest etc and i'll give you an update but not too hopeful :/

Error 99 is just a general WTF error, could be all sorts of stuff. Best to give canon tech support a ring.

Well with less than 2 months I'd be taking it back to where I bought it saying I want another one. That not an option?

If not I've always used Fixation in London to service my stuff. They deal with pro's all the time so know about tight schedules.

I got error 99 a few times on a really old sigma lens that I got 2nd hand. although it was a canon fitment it didn't really seem to get on very well. I think it happened when doing long exposures or certain apertures I can't remember.

Does it only do it with a certain lens? dirty contacts on the lens?

I suppose i could ask for a replacement. or rather demand. Considering the state it was delivered in as well.

What state was it delivered in? Did you raise that issue at the time? Doubt they will have much interest in discussing that with you after 2 months!

Well month and a half. The outer box was as if it had been used for about 5 other deliveries. Didn't really bother me at the time cos the product worked fine.

The Canon box, or another box that the proper packaging was in? What state was the Canon box in?

The box the canon box was in although the canon box did have a dented corner.

Canon UK

Tel: 0844 369 0100

I called Fixation for a sensor clean for my IDS MKII and they said they couldn't do it for 2 weeks yikes

I called Canon and they gave me the above details. I called them and they were 5mins from where I live and they did a sensor clean the same day FOC The receptionist, when I went in, was gorgeous too smile

Give em a ring. Good luck

Dixons - Avoid at all costs. Terrible service and if anything goes wrong they simply push you onto canon themselves.

Leighton - have you tried it with multiple lenses?

The E99 error is generic and has many paths leading to it, but most of them are related to lens error/contact between lens and body etc.

I used to get it quite a lot on my old 20D when running Sigma lenses, and also a 70-300 canon lens too, every other lens would work no problem on it.

When it used to crop up I found that if I dropped the battery pack off for 3-5 seconds and back on normally it would work again - if not then sometimes I could turn the dial to M and it would randomly fire off a single shot when you hit the shutter release and then return the camera to normal again...no other functions would let it fire...

With it only being 2 months old quite rightly get it done under warranty, just a few possible things to try if they've not already been mentioned above.
