Q7 valuation help
Discussion
Request to the collective for help with what to pay a stealer for a 4.2FSi S-Line - lava grey, 07 with 16k miles, sat nav and a few other options.
Up at the dealer for shade under £36k.
Don't do many miles so big petrol doesn't bother me and in this climate big petrol cars are looking good value for money.
It's between this and an X5...
Cheers,
Phil

Well I've signed on the dotted line for the Q7
With the minimum guaranteed value I'm looking at a max loss of 14k over 3 years which is pretty damn good in my book - I don't resent car depreciation, its a fact of life, I just like to go into the deal knowing what its going to be.
Looking forward to the v8 growl when I pick it up next week.
Thanks again to those who helped.
Cheers,
Phil

I think that's pretty astonishing. You'll almost certainly be handing the car back, so just be careful that the mileage doesn't creep up.With the minimum guaranteed value I'm looking at a max loss of 14k over 3 years which is pretty damn good in my book -
They are nice cars Phil, I have driven a friend's extensively here in the States. If you can afford it in modern Britain, good luck to you. £22k in 3 years, I can see it - that for 4 year old Q7 or a new Mondeo or whatever silly money is being paid for boring cars in 3 years time - cars like this will always retain a certain amount of value, whatever the market is doing. Some people will always be able to afford it, and not everyone is doing big miles, so why should a car like this be unpopular with everyone? Don't let the doom mongers get you down (you don't seem to have so far anyway!).

...I know you said you don't do many miles, but are you aware that some Q7 are going through sets of tyres in 5K miles?
What's the story there - must be dodgy geometry?Audi was apparently contributing towards tyres for some owners if they got less than than (I think) 15K miles from a set.
If you Google Q7 tyre wear then there's lots of hits.

Audi recommend running the Q7 in automatic mode on the air suspension where possible, and rememberinng that a 2 ton vehicle will eat its tyres if driven like a sports car. In fact doubling the cornering speed increases the load on the tyres by a factor of 25.
Audi have previously given brand new Q7 owners some contribution to tyre costs where they have complained - while they state there is nothing wrong with the geometry - it's just good PR to help owners. To my knowledge they will not do this on used Q7s.
