As per title. Want to take some pics of a friends Elise later in one of many local multi storey car parks. I can't decide whether to just do it, or ask permission first. They'll be static shots in a quiet corner.

Any thoughts?

Ditto. If you ask they're sure to say no.

Have a spare memory card to hand in case you see the Hitlers approaching...

But don't forget they or anyone else have NO Right to seize your cards or force you to delete photos.

Even the UK police can't delete the pictures - in fact it is viewed as destroying evidence under PACE, though they can seize the camera.

So, if anyone ever asks you to delete images - say no.

Print this and then always carry a couple of copies in your camera bag.

That's from the 'taking photos in public places' angle yes, but a car park is owned by NCP etc. Might not it be different, small print on the way in etc?

They can ask you to stop taking photos and you should leave quietly with no protest, but have no right to seize your equipment or ask you to delete photos - if they do, call the bib. If I were to do this myself (which I wouldn't) I would definitely look for adequate signage or notices before starting.

In my experience you have about 2 hours in an NCP before security can be bothered to hassle you. Even then they're pretty cool most of the time smile

Ended up going to a quiet corner of the local waitrose car park, it was ideal as it was really quiet. Noticed someone watching us at one point but they soon vanished.

I'll post some results when I get round to processing them.

cheers for the input everyone beer

Goo on ya, just do it. 99% of the time you won't get hassled, and if you do you'll just be asked to leave.

I did a shoot in a Waitrose car park (splendid one in Cheltenham). Security chappie was very helpful and gave me the name and number to call.

Edited to add, of course! You are in Cheltenham. And having read rest of thread see you found them rather pleasant too.
