Ive posted this on this forum for a nore genereal opinion.
Fitted a set of shocks from a well known name but totally unhappy with them so i have decided there coming off.
Decided not to mention manufacterer.

So now im unsure of the next step bilsteins or nitrons.
As this car is for road use bilsteins are the way i believe but are nitrons that much better?
Or should i save the £300 and put it to another upgrade.
Has anyone replaced bilsteins for nitrons im talking about the latest shock not the ones that were on my car 13 years ago.
Dilemma time anyone advise please.
Paul

Did you follow my advice and give your (name withheld) dampers a second chance ? I've never got good results from the dampers you have, but did you start working from the stiff end of the range like I suggested and did it make it better / worse / or varying degrees of not-quite-right? From our fone conversation I really think you'd be better off with something non-adjustable though.

I think he may have meant the price difference between the new Bilsteins and Nitrons?

Doesn't that probably go for the majority of us? smile

Hi,
I did stiffen it up last nightbiglaugh
At the rear only it made no difference by doing this all you do is make the car stiffer.
However seem to have eliminated the drifting.
Still have the underlying problem though.

I thought it was more like 4 Billies £500, 4 Nitrons £950 (given the nature of the query I'm assuming he doesn't want to go with the 'racing' version)? Not there yet, but closer still...

I had my worn Bilsteins replaced with "standard" replacement Bilsteins. The ride/handling, as you would expect, is significantly improved. However it would appear that these dampers have a larger bush, which may or may not account for the fact that my car has the wrong attitudefrown. The rear is lower than before and the front is higher than before, but being non adjustable I'm kind of stuck with it. I have the original springs, so no effect due to them.

An alternative may be Racing Reds, which are getting good reports. Nitrons, I have heard - but no direct experience, do need regular servicing, which can add a significant cost over the years.

I wish someone would start a thread where we could understand from reading what exactly the problems are, or just differences in handling we are talking about when it comes to set-up.

My 93/94 Griff 500 tells me a couple of things I'd like to improve on, but having only ever driven two 4 ltr Griffs a few years ago, I have no base line what so ever to know if my Griff is handling great or like a bag of $hit. All I do know is I can cope with it and I believe it to be a very good handling car, but I also believe I could drive a Focus ST faster down a very long twisty road with no straights the Griff could eek a power advantage. Know where I'm coming from? Could we all do likewise in a Focus ST?

I neded to drive more Griffs! Volunteers please call, lol biggrin

Me too (standard 100,000 mile+ Bilsteins/Eibachs on mine FWIW).

My new Tuscan came with Bilstiens from the factory. They were on the car a month as they were trying to kill me. Changed them for Nitrons and never looked back smile

I had Nitrons on my cerb, and the car was fantastic, handled mid-corner bumps very well, ride was pretty comfortable (even the wife liked it)
I must point out tho the fitting and 4 wheel set-up with appropiate springs was all done by Steve gugelimi at scared stiff. I didn't touch it or fiddel after that as it simply wasn't required.

Standard Billies up front with Protech rears. I have no real issues that would say this is bad or could be better. I'm sure it could be a lot better of course, but I feel that the ragged edge in the Griff is more my reluctance to push it harder. What I need to feel is confidence knowing I could push it harder. However, pushing it harder would be very bloody fast.

Does anyone experience the tail hanging out and diff acting on high speed country road corners, coz I don't. I have grip at speed, but if I feel the rear acting different because of high speed, what I think I feel is a sensation of what I'd describe as sudden and ever so momentary like the inside rear wheel is trying to turn the back end opposite to the direction of turn. Maybe this is the point where the arse end does kick out and I'm missing out on some good corner exiting fishtailing fun. I don't think so though. I think it's more like ready for slicks!!

Just had a set of Racing Reds fitted to my Chimaera by TVR Power. Only had them on a couple of days but already very pleased, much better road holding through the corners and better damping in a straight line. That said, my previous Bilsteins were the original ones from the factory back in '95! But a thumbs up nevertheless.

After doing some research i noticed TVR Power supply Eibachs Springs as standard but not other suppliers.
Would these be a better option?
