New Scirocco or 6-12month old TT?
Discussion
I'm in a dilemma... I've just ordered the Scirocco GT for september delivery (reserved a production slot in March on the strength of the IROC concept), but I'm starting to have second thoughts.
Have just sold my 2004 2.2 Z4 following the arrvival of our son, and thought the Scirocco was a good choice for a new car (albeit a compromise as a 2 seater is out). I'm now thinking that a 2.0 TT (rear seats will do until he's 3/4) might be a better choice - don't ask me why, but I'm starting to think that the scirocco isn't special enough?
Thoughts?...
I guess if I do change my mind then I can kiss goodbye to the 500 notes the stealer took to reserve the car in March?

TBH I dont think the TT has had as much impact this time around, with the MK1 it was special, different, the MK2 just looks like the rest of the range now, nothing special.
I'd stick with the scirocco if it were me.
Plus you could keep it longer since the back seats are actually back seats!

Are you mad?
The TT is hardly special, its nice but the Scirocco is leagues ahead. I think its one of the best looking cars out there at the moment. Stick with the Scirocco, The Stig drove one for the latest Top Gear and he preferred it to a 1 series on the track. More usable rear seats as well and the residuals will be stronger than the TT.

Thanks for the advice.
I'm sure the Scirocco is a great car - but I've seen a few pics taken from the front/side and the back doesn't look right to me (if anything a bit too 147/astra like). Also everything I read suggests that the interior is unquestionably volkswagen (i.e. golf/eos like) - whereas the TT interior looks great (have heard rumours that quality of materials are a bit suspect...)
You might be right about the scirocco though - I'd hate to cancel my order, then find that I really like the thing - anyone know where I might be able to see one in the flesh? What Car last month or the month before had an article where readers were invited to see a pre-production model and most stated that pics don't do the car justice...

I for one thinks that the production Scirocco is not a patch on the iroc concept - the interior while nice is a pale imitation of the dramatic concept interior - why do car makers always create fantastic cabins only for the production version to comprise of parts bin?
I'd highly doubt the Scirocco will have better residuals than the mk2 TT...
Anyways, get the one that your heart tells you. If you feel the VW is 'not quite right' then you might regret purchasing it over the Audi.

Went to see a TT last night and was blown away - interior & build quality much improved over the mk1. Plus plenty of room in the back for a forward facing child seat - boot a similar size to the scirocco also and if anything a better shape for taking a buggy etc...
Started looking on autotrader and you can pick up a 6-12month old 2.0 fully loaded for reasonable money.
I think my mind is made up - if I go for it, the 500notes down on the Scirocco is history? - unless anyone can suggest how I might get this back? Or even turn a profit? - after all the scirocco is in fairly high demand?

Thats the problem, the Scirocco isn't available to test drive yet so you are making a chioce without driving it.Started looking on autotrader and you can pick up a 6-12month old 2.0 fully loaded for reasonable money.

But that doesn't matter if you are happy buying the TT.
Have you put £500 deposit with the dealer and does that guarantee an early delivery date? If so I wuld try and get that back or see if you can sell the slot (for £500 of course

)IIRC, people who have ordered reckon that dealers only have 6 cars each for this year.
I think you're right.. I was told each dealer was getting a max allocation of 5 cars (less for smaller dealers), but this has since increased to 7 I believe.
Problem with my deposit is that I've already ordered a car (had to for mid/end September delivery).....
Candy white
Truffle leather
Panaramic sunroof
DAB touchscreen head unit
Dynaudio ICE upgrade
I wonder if I could sell this spec car to someone else prior to the thing turning up (i.e. the dealer simply sells this to someone else instead of me - I don't want to go down on the V5 as an owner etc)
Will definately look at / drive a scirocco as soon as I can though (September at the latest when the VW dealership get their demo) - before I make up my mind.
Thanks again for the advice etc...

Phone the dealer and ask late you can change the build options - just tell him you may be changing your mind about the options/colour - worst they can do is say too late!

Yep, i think thats a good point, it depends on the dealer tho!
What about having the scirocco for 6-8months (im sure you'll love it when the time comes) and then sell it on, or even part ex on a TT. If its the same story as the mk5 GTi when that came out im sure you wont really loose anything. You may even have fallen in love with VW and not wanna sell it anyway.
This is all speculative of course but im sure thats what it'll be for the first 6 months of launch.
New TT a great car tho.. (check july Audi driver mag, feature on owning a 2nd series TT with owners stories)

Well, like I said - the VW dealership should have their demo car in early September, so I should be able to drive one at least a week or two before mine turns up. I think my mind is made up though... TT.
Take the point about good scrirocco residuals / high demand during the first six months - would rather not suffer the hassle of swapping cars in such a short space of time though...
Will check out Audi Driver - thanks for the info. Anyone know of any space issues fitting a child seat in the Mk2 rear seats?

Was in a VW dealership today looking at a Golf GTis and asked about the Scirocco - the salesman, who was one of the best I've dealt with for sometime, reckons they will be limiting Scirocco orders to 2 or so a month this year - so there is potential. He said they'd sold all their allocation.
Why not go for the Scirocco and see how you get on with it? You can always go for the TT later.

I'm going to wait until closer to scirocco delivery date before I make a choice - that way I should be able to drive a demo car (arriving at my dealership on Sept 1st). That is so long as I'm not tempted into an impulse buy
....saw a 57 plate 2.0 TT with DVD navigation, bose, full +extended +heated leather, 19" twin spokes. Thankfully it had been sold otherwise I think I'd be an Audi driver by now!
Not that interested in buying the Scirocco if I'm in any doubt about selling it within a short period of time - too much hassle I think. If dealers are limited to 2 cars a month from now on, It's likely that I'll be able to sell my car nearer the time I would think (before I take delivery) - hopefully the dealer will let me do this so that I don't go down as a listed owner etc... I'm not after a profit - but it would be nice to claw back my 500 notes for the deposit?
