Had a great drive along the A640 from Denshaw to Huddersfield and surrounding countryside.

Was very eventful.

1. Was flying along at about censoredmph (straight clear road no traffic or people)bounce(very Bumpy) when a chap i can only describe as (suicidal) came past me on a motorbike and did a Wheelie!!!! yikes youve got to take your hat off to these guys. they must have balls the size of footballs.

2. came up behind a silver fiesta on a bendy section, sat behind him for a minute or so before i could see far enough ahead to overtake safely. just so happens this happened to be at quite a sharp but flowing right hand bend. floored it and began to overtake just as i got almost to the side of him, he decided it would be a great idea to cut the corner and almost sent me into the stone wall. yikes luckily i hit the brakes and avoided contact by millimetres. I swear i was convinced he was just not happy that i was going passed him and decided to just block the road! nono i thought this because i had been behind him for so long and it was so obvious i was going to go passed as soon as i could see there was nothing coming the other way.
Any way i then got passed him and slammed on the brakes to ask him what the ffuriousck all that was about when i saw him hold both his hands up in an apologetic manner so i may have been wrong and he just may not have checked his mirror so i gave him the benefit of the doubt and drove on.

3. was coming back down the A640 when a chap in a Mr2 driving a little bit to quick lost it on the bends and slid straight accross both lanes and over the cliff yikes

Fortunately for him the cliff wasnt a shear drop and only about 45 degrees and he came to a stop without flipping the car!

I think he was ok and saw a landrover winch him back up the ravine about an hour later. front end looked a bit crunched.

To top the day off, On my way home later saw a lovely Lazer Blue elise (55 reg i think)wavey it was behind me heading towards Rochdale for a minute or so

all in all a great afternoon. driving

and bow to the bikers

Edit: Im up for it next sunday as long as its not wet!

It was hairy enough when dry!! biggrin

Sounds a very eventful day!! yes always plenty of crazy bikers up there, normally they just fly past, even when you think you are going some ! I often go on the A640, whereabouts did the MR2 come off ? (Just for future reference! would hate to do the same) and how did they manage that or was it a case of trying too hard in the presence of a superior car!!wink
Also my other favourite near by road is the A635 between Greenfield and Holmfirth, even better is to combine the two to make a great circuit!
I'm away this weekend otherwise I'd have loved to gone for a blast around the south Pennines...

If your coming from Huddersfield towards Denshaw there is a straight flat section about 150 mtrs long that runs in between the 2 reservoirs that has a 90degree right followed by a 90 degree left. (the bikers normally park here and sit on the wall) The MR2 came off about 150 mtrs before the flat section as the road is dropping down and has a quite few twists. I missed the actual event but the tyre marks and position of the car down the ravine on a very steep angle said it all.
Think he was just going too fast and underestimated his speed due to the steep incline and twisty road. He was very lucky!
