Hi all, Just thinking about de-cating the elise , ive been reading that if i want to stop the MIL light on the dash lighting up when the pipe is fitted i should install one of these Light Eliminator
http://www.eliseparts.com/shop/index.php?main_page...
Has anyone put this in if so how easy are they to install or is there another way around it.

Thanks

very easy, just one wire, and no, theres no other way I know of.

Ive had de-cat, normal cat, sports cats over 6 years, the de-cat lasted about 3 monthswink

If you can afford it Id save for a sports cat - no MIL issues, a few more BHP, and a sound/volume in between the other two

ETA: And of course - with a sports cat, no hassle each year with refitting the cat and then taking off again just for MOTs ..and the risk of failing a roadside test

So what you saying is the only way to go is all out and get the sports cat for the best sound

I personally preferred the sports cat for lack of hassle, and sound. Others like a real loud exhaust, I just found it tiring and too overt ...I was using the car daily for 25-30K miles a year though

A weekend toy for 6K miles then Im sure a cat pipe is fine, if you can remove/refit yourself and dont mid the hassle each year of doing so, and you dont mind the sickly exhaust fume smell in the cabin when you are sat in the traffic and the mess on the rear clam around it frown

I can certainly think of enough negative reasons (for myself at least) not to have a cat pipe, but a sports cat

so yes, just save up for onewink

..I want a pair for my Vantage, and they are like £1500 !! ..makes £250 for the Elise look cheap for sure !wink

I thought Id answered that smile

Pros: more noise, 2-3 bhp (maybe)

Cons: need to replace once per year for MOT, smell fumes in the car at standstill, staining on paintwork around exhaust, can be too much noise, would fail roadside test

so make sure you keep your original cat - dont sell it or throw it out !

in a matter of a few days, maybe a week or 2 you will have a black, dirty, grimy mess around it (well if you dont have a black car, worse on colours of course!) ..and you will have to be using paint cleaner and some elbow grease on it every time you wash etc to get it clean...some people dont mind and just leave it like that, to me it was just a hassle I didnt need

you will be surprised with the crap, a car (or sports cat) actually filters out, in both smell and particulates....remember, depending how old you are, you may not have ever owned a car/vehicle without a cat, so would never know what it was like before..

.....anyway, its only £60 and an afternoon of swearing under the car to find out....go for it ...you can always put the cat back on a week later if you dont like it, and flog the cat pipe (what I did!)

as its not *that* dangerous, I think you get a producer and rectification order so you would have to put the act back on, and take down to be tested like that...

its like having a headlight bulb out etc I think

Your scaring the poor man Bogiewink

I have had a CRP fitted for about 4 months, my 49 is white/red around the exhaust exit and have noticed no discoloring but I do wash it weekly.

The bottom line is the noise is just glorious when used with a S/S back box and as Bogie said for £60 and a bit of elbow grease its worth trying.

just took this from a emissions test results website

If your car fails a roadside test, you will receive an instant fine, penalty points on your driving license. In addition, you will receive instructions to obtain acceptable emissions test results from a registered MOT testing station, within a set period to prevent further prosecution. (As this was written this amounted to a £60.00 fine, 3 penalty points, and 14 days to present test results.)

With the current "tough on everything" (except criminals and corruption) one can still be amazed not to face imprisonment for this. Oh dear, this could still change, where is my cat ?;)

Seriously though, what's the best sports cat for 111S and how much ?

I would get the sports cat from your exhaust manufacturer if they do one -they are usually £200-300, make sure its a 200cell jobbie

yes, looks like it solves the MIL issue easier ...but that always was the least issue with a CRP - in the early days most people just drive around with the MIL on permanent and didnt carewink

no dont tell them FFS ! without a cat, the car may be deemed "not road legal" therefore you could be uninsured etc
