Gunson's Trakrite

Does anyone have experience of using a Gunson's trakrite on their cars. I have the opportunity to get one on the cheap and am unsure of whether it's worth it or just continue to take to the local tyre place for tracking.

What's cheap, they are no more that 39.00 to buy...TI Churchill tried for years to sell this type of system, where you fitted the floating platform into the workshop floor and customers would drive over, as simple as that, if I remember £8000 was the figure then!....reality is that the surface has to be flat and internal roller system perfectly clean (so even a lightly used one is worth nothing). However, this tool relates only to ONE wheel and not to the squareness of the chassis and the other 3 wheels, it has it's uses and IMHO worth having one just for the information that it can give.

Thanks Adrian - a tenner is what I have been offered one for hardly used, but if they were no good then why waste a tenner was my thought and new price being around the £50 mark I seriously wondered on the value of them given that proper optical alignment set cost in IRO £200-300. But with your advice and that of Bomber Denton whilst on the WWM Boogie 500 today I will buy the one I've been offered.

Hi Mark,
Strip it down before you use it and keep it very clean, (I now no longer let anyone else use mine) sweep the floor around it prior to use, pick stones out of tyres, and you will find that it is a very handy tool. Adrian@
