Royal Air Force: Celebrating 90 Years
Fri 11 Jul, 2:15 pm - 3:00 pm 45mins

Dan Snow and Kate Silverton introduce live coverage from RAF Fairford one of the largest fly-pasts ever seen in Britain. Watched by Her Majesty The Queen, ninety aircraft, from bi-planes of the First World War to the modern jets and helicopters flying in Iraq and Afghanistan today, celebrate 90 years of the Royal Air Force.

Apologies if a re-post.

6 fast fighter jets flew in formation over my house in thatcham this morning heading north. Wondered what was going on - maybe they were commuting to the show smile

It's a tragic mark of the success of the greenies that I now see that and instantly think 'I wonder what the fuel costs? I wonder how much CO2 they're putting out?'

I don't care in the least - long live flypasts - but I'm bothered that my brain has been reprogrammed frown

We've had all sorts fly over us (North Wiltshire) the last few days.

The dog was surprised to see a Tristar and a C17 at (surprisingly) low level on Wednesday, he hid under a hedge.

Thanks for the heads up.

I was supposed to be there today, but cancelled my hotel booking, due to the weather and the impending ticket fiasco tomorrow.

Flypast I believe should be about 14:45.

The Vulcan is not in the flypast, and will be arriving at Fairford direct from Waddington tomorrow morning.
It will stay at Fairford until Sunday where it will display and depart for Farnborough.

Although they say this is the biggest flypast this country has seen, the 1990 Battle of Britain flypast over London, IIRC, involved something like 140 aircraft!!

How big was the Coronation Flypast of 1953?

A quick Google reveals that 640 aircraft took part in that flypast - 144 were Gloster Meteors alone.

Indeed, it is a rather small one in the great scheme of things. Even the Fleet Air Arm got 89 aicraft in the air a few years ago.

This, however, is a proper flypast!

They usually have this kind of thing on News24, as all they do is rerun stories from the last 24 hours anyhow - gives them a break from it!
Got it streaming at the moment, but nothing yet.
