Hey all - newbie here

I've been asked by a good friend to fit cruise to his '08 Polo GTI.
I know someone who can source me the stalk, but is unsure of the exact part number.
Also, he has advised me that there may be some additional wiring to connect, but isn't sure where it goes.
I'm guessing that once it's fitted (however it's done), it will need to be enabled using VAG-COM.

Our local VW dealer (and several others) have said that this after-market upgrade cannot be completed - it needs to be factory fitted when the vehicle is new. I refuse to believe that.

Any one got any ideas, or done this mod yet ??
Any advice, part numbers, diy guides, photo's would be handy.

Thanks in advance

I think you have a job on your hands their, does he really need cruise control that much? Would it also void the warranty pulling the wiring to pieces?

All I know is that he does a lot of motorway driving, and is paying for it !!

I was afraid that extra wiring would come into it.
I've seen kits on a German website called Kufatec, but not understanding German is doesn't help much. Fortunately, they are genuine VW parts sold on there, so I don't think it'll void the warranty.

All I can tell is that there are 8 loose cables on a mini-loom (judging by the picture), but I haven't got the first clue on the new Polo.

When you say "paying for it" are you talking about fuel economy, because by fitting cruise control is not the answer, especially when it comes to hills and inclines, he will be worse off.

Sorry - that's badly written.
When I say he's paying for it, I mean he's happy to pay me for the change to his car !!
He doesn't worry about faul economy - his company provides the all important fuel card !!
The kit price from Kufatec is about €100 and he's on the verge of buying it.

But out of curiousity, and for my own info, how much worse of is your fuel economy using cruise ?? (I may stop using it myself altogether if the figures say so)

Can you proove that? My experience with the VW cruise control (OK diesel version on the Golf, but same applies) is that it maintains light throttle and doesn't over accelerate so difference must be marginal.

I think once you go to drive by wire the ECU is making most of the decisions anyway.
