Well the time has come to get rid of the E-Class. I've done 100K in the old barge and it's never let me down. Despite knowing that it's the best thing to do to let the old boy go I do feel a sense of attachment to it. Been really good to me that car has, the first merc I owned and the first car to ever make me feel "special".

The replacement C-class Estate will make up for it but I do feel sad at the prospect losing it. Anyone else feel this sense of loss when changing a car or am I just weird in this respect.

Nope I hate letting cars go frown

I was more upset when I wrote my Civic off than when I split up with my girlfriend of 2 years...

I nearly wept when I sold my first car, a 92 starlet, still wish I hadn't sold it. In fact I've always regretted selling my cars even though I knew what I was doing made sense.

I loved my SAAB 96 and it pained me greatly when sold it. Friendly little car with bags of character and I don't think that I will feel the same about selling anything modern.

Not so much myself, but MrsR loves her old Audi urS4 Avant and I want to sell it as it costs a fortune to run and get her a Panda 100hp instead.
She has had it for 4 years and done a good 50k in it and cannot stand the thought of selling it!

Somewhere, across thee internet, a Range Rover picture stirs, knowing, without knowing why, that it's time had come again.

Myself and Lady XXVIII had a '83 Accord just after we were married in 1992.

It was reliable, comfy, trustworthy and quite light on it's feet for what was then a 9 year old car and we drove it everywhere, sometimes just for the pleasure of driving somewhere, anywhere.

It got badly vandalised in 1994 and we thought we'd buy something a bit sportier... a sodding Celica that was black and mean looking but proved to be the opposite of reliable and couldn't be trusted at all...

Nope, never felt bad seeing a car go, I have always had a reason for it to go, usually to buy somethingpercieved as better or more suitable - I have regretted selling a car later but never at the time.

Mrs Tosser though feels bad everytime she sells/trades in a car, never understood it myself.

I cant let go of my 306 Diesel (green, with country tweed interior). I've had it for about 10 years, apart from breaking down (due to me not putting gear box oil in (although it worked fine after standing for 2 years (although I thought it prudent to 'top up the gearbox). It sailed thru the MOT and I've loaned it to a mate (on pain-of-death if he kills it).

My brother now has my old diesel 205, I have to watch him drive it, wishing it was still mine.

I haven't formed any real attachment on my 306 yet, but then it's had so many problems since getting it that I can only currently see it as more of a nuisance frown

I see my old Corsa paperbag around now and again. I often consider following it and stopping the owner to see if they'd sell it.

I think it'd make a cracking little track day car.

(inspired by the lad in 'readers cars' who has done a superb job on his corsa)

Maybe I've not had something nice enough but I've never been sorry to let anything go and never regretted selling a car.

I've always bought something either more suited to my needs or just plain better afterwards, so have always been better off, and I've always sold privately and got a good deal.

Much as I've liked my cars and had some good times in them, it's just a car at the end of the day. If I liked what I had that much, I could always go and get another one...

I've sold cars because of emotional attachments to them. The porsche and now the racing car.
I've moved abroad and thought there's no way I can let a beautiful thing like that sit and go to waste in my parent's garage, It needs to race, and I wish I could be the one racing it, but I can't. Keep an eye out in the classifieds for it soon *the one in my profile( I'd love it if she went to a PHer.

Emotionally attached...Unfortunately so!

I still have my baby from when I passed, she still has a few knocks & scrapes from my 1st year of driving but we've been through alot together & the thought of selling after all of that is something I just couldn't stomach. She was incredible when I drove her for the first time & she's still got that sparkle for me even when trying to keep pace with a Viper/WRX/Quattro/M5 when heading back from the VW afew weeks back. Great car...Never getting rid! EVER!

The 328 however, it's an odd character, but I've grown fond of it, if not slightly annoyed. She has character but is also a right stubborn little madam that seems to crave attention & money. Sidelined it for the past few months as punishment for the constant headaches it's provided. Yet I'm still yearning to have it back on the road, & soon it will be for the next Sunday Service thumbup

I've realised that I don't think I can sell any car I own, I'm too loyal to them, I'll look after them as long as they look after me, which they always do smile

At some point in the near future, I'm going to be letting my trusty daily hack go.

A 1999 1.8 Petrol Ford Focus.

I've had it for nearly six years and have done 160,000 miles in it (It now has almost 200k on the clock!) It has been utterly reliable and remarkably cheap to run

I will be genuinely sad to see it go.

I was a bit gutted when I sold my S2000 - was the first halfway decent car I'd owned (I had an MGF before thatwink). But I was somewhat mollified by the fact that it was going to another previous S2k owner who was going to - and now has - supercharge it evil
