engine is the same, but the suspension set up is different (except on the sports racer, which uses the Exige suspension). Exige also has more downforce, so can be quicker through the bends..

But AFAIK the Exige does weigh a little more? (options packs equal)

Well there's a surprise!!! roflwink

Okay, more to the point. What do you think you're going to gain over the sports racer? Thats basically an Exige less a spoiler and with proper road tyres? Unless you are planning to track surely thats got to be a better road car.

Or, is it the looks as well (thats half the reason I went for one)

no difference in the real world...in fact on a wet bumpy road youd be quicker in the 111R ...having stiff suspension and sticky tyres is great for trackdays, but not for all round use. Downforce on Exige is comical too - the spiller stops air getting under, nowt wrong with putting on your Elise too, helps when you are cornering abouve like 100mph on the way to workwink ...spoiler does cock all - 2 bags of cement weigh 50kg, Id like to see a picture of someones exige with 50kg on the rear spoiler without it snapping and breaking ..LOL

nowadays on series 2 Elises and Exiges the only difference is styling really, especially now you can just order and Elise SC with sports pack etc...so you have everything the same as an Exige, power suspension, tyres etc, its just looks

its purely the looks but i dont want the drive to be too dissimilar to my Sportracer as i enjoy driving it, if the general consensus is that it is a totally different car then i probably wont go for it however i dont believe it is too different from the research that i have done.

Over the past 12 months i have looked at loads of Exiges and if i dont buy this one i will look at a load more over the next 12 months until i do eventually buy one. Im not too bothered about missing out on the performance of the Exige S as the Exige is more than quick enough for me as is the 111R.
I do intend to do a few more track days but not on a level where i will be doing them every other week as the main thing is i will be using the car daily for travelling to and from work.

Probably 70-30 going to go ahead at the moment and the extra few quid back is tempting as well.

Do you have the NA Exige, if so what did you go from when you purchased it??

edited to add ; im also not bothered about taking the roof off cos i never have done with any of the Lotus that i have owned.Much prefer the look with the hard top on.

If all you are after is the looks over and above a sports racer then go for it. But, beware, A048's are not forgiving in the wet. I went from an E46 M3 so an Exige a massive gain in terms of fun and driveability but if I'm honest I still miss the hp.

Ok to all intents and purposes they are the same car. The exige has more down force (allegedly) has a different suspension set up and is 80 - 100k heavier.
An elise with decent suspension and geo is as fast if not faster.

Once again it is totally academic - the real difference between any elise / exige is the driver. More capable driver with more "seat time" will beat the less able no matter what car.

another question for you, would you be put off by the fact that the car has been a Lotus owned car probably as a track demo?? This is probably why they are practically giving me the car for my Sportracer.

run away, run away, run away!

Do a quick search on You Tube and see what so called "Lotus owned" cars do on Silverstone experience days.

No wonder the dealers ready to part with it any give you money!

Every clip that i have just looked at has been a Storm Titanium Exige identical to the one that i am considering. Feel a bit gutted now. Wont the track demos have been better looked after than most??

Ask yourself "why won't Lotus honour the warranty on these cars?" I walked away from several "too good to be true" deals.

It comes with a 12 month warranty.
Is there a way of finding out if it was a Silverstone car?

Get the reg. and call Lotus customer services. They'll give you the history.

Is the twelve months "warranty" 3rd party or the real Lotus warranty? I went through this on two cars.

There is a large difference between a car that has been privately used and does the occasional track day and a car that is used on the track every day.

If you think you will take a third of the life of your tyres on a track day, just imagine that wear on a car every day with novice drivers dropping the clutch and grinding the gears, botched down changes. All the abuse that idiot drivers who have just recieved a WH smith track day gift.

Your sport racer is a beauty. Walk away. When a dealer is giving an offer that is great it will generally mean he wont loose.

It's not 50kg - more like 28kg at 200km/h and a lot less (more like close to none) in the 111R. (courtesy of Sport-Auto Magazine that had both cars tested in their windtunnel).

More like 30kg comparing like to like.
111R with A/C and touring pack ~890kg
Exige with A/C and touring pack ~920kg

Some are lighter, some are a bit heavier, but overall, 30kg difference a bit more or less is where you're at.

ah right...so 28kg at 200Kmh....an Exige cant even go that fastwink ...and no lift for the Elise...exactly how it should be ....so nothing worth bothering about then ...youd need like 100Kg+ at like 80-100mph to noticewink
