I have an XBOX 360 Problem that it thinks my games are DVDs and says to put them in an XBOX 360.

The discs seem clean and scratch free, and occasionally they do start up and run fine, then whilst running, they may skip, or give a disc read error.

I think i have JUST had my xbox over a year (it could be 2 actually!). My question: Am i entitled to a replacement/fix, or do i now have an expensive white box?

Any suggestions to improving the problem are welcome e.g. spraying compressed air into the drive etc or cleaning the discs.

Thanks

Unless you get the red ring of death Microsoft will want payment from you. I happen to know that the problem you have will cost £50+. frown

Mine does it sometimes too.

Use a disk cleaner to make sure there is no dust on the lense. It can also be down to the xbox marking the disks, look for small marks in shape of the discs rotation and carefully wipe them off.

Mine has done it from day one but it has not got any worse. I get the error maybe every 20-30hours of it being on.

Any ordinary disk cleaner (like a DVD player one?)

Yep, presume mine is a "normal" one! Just a cleaner disk from HMV. Little bristles on the surface, does the trick.

Certainly sounds like a good idea.

Once it gets going it's OK. I played a few hours on Forza 2 and GTA IV no problems (GTA gave a disc unreadable error after around 2-3 hrs), and playing DVDs is no problem. Just hope its a little dirty on the lens.

Mine started off doing this, mainly on Forza. Then the disc died. I was in the last month of warranty according to them (thanks to me posting the warranty card off late), so they fixed it for free. When it came back, it read the discs fine.

In you shoes, when it dies, I'd towel-trick it to red-ring, then send it off.

This has just happened to mine, it won't read a single disc. I've had to pay £60 to Micro$oft to get it fixed, but at least I'll get a full 1 year warrenty when it comes back frown

Why don't you make the RROD then. Put a towel round it, leave it 24 hours or so and the job's a good-un. Or failing that try the microwave, however i have no idea what happens if you put a 360 in the microwave.

I only ever get this when I first start up to play Forza. Find it funny as it say to play it put it in an xbox360. that signal is coming from an xbox 360 is it not? I just take the disk out wipe it over and it seems fine, never done it with another game.

Mine has had this problem for about a year - discs will read, but rarely on the first attempt, but once they have loaded they are fine until I turn the 360 off. Strange.
