Still looking around for the right car so a couple of questions I could do with some help with.
What is the thought about mileage on these cars and how many is too many ?
I'm told that 3rd gear selection can be a problem on the 5 speed is this the case?
How much does a LSD cost and would you buy a car without one.
I,m looking at cars upto 30k which I suppose is relevant to the above questions.

Not herd of any 5spd boxes going (plenty of diff's though). for your budget i would expect a 3r or a wellsorted 3 so LSD and 6spd would be on both.
expect 2 pay 2-4k for lsd if don't find a 3 with one depending on who and how its done.

For 30k I would imagine you could get a 3R, but it won't be the best...and you'll just have to live with Boring Blue or Sick Silver 
I don't think milage is an issue, more the way the car has been looked after and the amount of time it's spent on track. Cars with 15k, 20k and even 30k are perfectly fine...at least you know all the niggles have been sorted. Jools has way over 50k on his, I'm pretty sure that milage hasn't been a problem.

I blew my 5spd 1 year ago. It stripped 5th whilst slightly accelerating at around 70. Left me stranded for 16 hours. If I remember rightly a certain Noble owner on here drove passed in his rather nice Ford GT, git.

P.S. Best thing that happened really, as I now have 6spd, lsd and M400 linkage.
I blew my 5spd 1 year ago. It stripped 5th whilst slightly accelerating at around 70. Left me stranded for 16 hours. If I remember rightly a certain Noble owner on here drove passed in his rather nice Ford GT, git.

It was a sad sight but we both remarked it was good to see someone actually standing in the right place when with a broken car.
