HELP

Fired her up today for the first time after double , triple checking everything. Its an AS 377 with carb . On startup giving a little gas it wants to start , fires a few times but doesnt take, giving a little more gas and a flame jumps out the carb...???? Dont want to crank too much once oil pressure is up in the dry sump....Help.. please....

Double double check your timing..

Have you touched anything since it was built by AS?
Have you had the leads off and put them back in the wrong order.
Can't see why you would have done anything else to affect the timing unless you have had the dizzy out.

The 377 has been rebuilt , first time round we found an electrode missing on one of the plugs and also had back pressure pushing oil out the breather pipes. ....hence the rebuild , one of the barrels were scored from the electrode...???

If it's been stripped then it is back to square one with everything.
Timing?
Is it 180 degrees out?
Plug leads?
Fuel supply?
Valve timing?
Valve clearances?

This could be a long list but you get the message.

Assuming all compressions are now good, (no sticky bent valves/ damaged seats/valve gear) it really does sound like a timing issue , cam or ignition!!!
Is it solid roller? sometimes hydraulic lifters give problems after rebuilds too.
