targa hood up or down?

Hi All,

I met someone who never folds the targa part of their hood down on their Chim to avoid the rear window creasing.

Has anybody had any experience of problems whilst driving with the roof panels out but the targa part up in an S - like the rear window blowing out...?

Did leave it up once on the S with no problem - slightly less wind..

...however (the rant), now it is down and stays down unless its raining (hard). I my view it is either a convertable or it is not a convertable - next thing people will be running with the side windows up!!!

Normally all down BUT if SWMBO is in the car sometimes all up but no targa panels unless its raining

How about SWMBO having the rear up, targa panel on and window up and us having the window down and targa panel in the boot !!! Has anybody ever designed a partition to go above the centre console to make the isolation complete... ?

I've run with the targa up on a couple of occasions when I had a load on the 'parcel shelf' and it interfered with the struts. No problems to report at :ahem: motorway speeds.

It does make you look like a Chimp owning golfist though so best left folded with a towel in to stop the creases.

well I did try driving with it like that around the lanes and even at 60mph the increased 'turbulence' was pretty marked. So it's windows and hood down for me all the way.

I got caught in a heavy shower at the weekend with the roof down and had the dilemma whether to pull over and stand in the rain for 2 mins putting the roof on or just get on with it. I opted for the latter. my 16 month old son wasn't quite so impressed though. "mummy!!" he cried.

I carry a huge Umbrella (like a golf umbrella but I DO NOT PLAY GOLF !!!) on the rear parcel (?) shelf for such occasions... I stop of course

I always like having everything down. But when it gets cold, the screen starts to mist up so I tend to try and stop this by putting the rear targa up. I actually opted to put the whole roof up on the drive home last evening...hey I'm going to start a topic on misty screens...

I've had a quite spirited drive or two with the panels out but the hood up with no problems at all.

I would normally prefer it either all off or (gulp) all on.

However, it apparently is determined by how much your passenger has spent on her hair

23rd August is the date for the 'keyhole' surgery perhaps I would have been better off letting you lot fix it at S Club heaven!!

We could have done it at Newark, we had vast medical experience. Well, we've seen a few doctors between us. You'd have loved the new glass fibre finish!

maybe your friend should do what I saw the dealer do to their democar when I bought my S3C in 1991. They rolled a bathtowel into the fold of the window when taking the "targa" down to prevent this crease.

All I usually did, was to fold the "targa" up whenever the car was in the garage. And now after 18 years it starts to have a little hole in the (PVC). Easily replaced I think.

yes I do the same thing with the towel. Certainly helps prevent scratching. Of course I had to go and get a nice dark blue towel to match the hood....!
