Lisbon - Five shots
Discussion
Recently went to Lisbon on a 'field trip' (read boozy student holiday) - here are a few of my non-people snaps. Would be nice to get some feedback! All D40 with boggo 18-55 and cpol.

Hi there
Just some thoughts...
1. Nice beach shot, good colours etc etc but a criticism that was made of some of my first forays into landscape type photographs was a lack of theme. You seem to have done what I did and thought nice shot and clicked the button. In my case the point was spot on
2. Liking this a lot - right up my street! One of those photo's I wish I'd taken!
3. I like this one - I like the chaotic houses and the contrast with the calm sea and sky
4. This one seems to fall between two stools for me. I would have gone either for the contrast between the purple on the tree and the clear sky and just taken a picture of the tree or (more likely for me) gone for a full on street shot - the salmon pink of the building on the left is stunning!
5. You've done here what I have started trying on landscapes and put somthing interesting in the foreground of a long shot. I think I would have gone for blurring the branch and having the background in focus just because the background makes up so much of the picture.
Hope you don't mind the feedback - you've got 2 there that I really like and the others are hardly shabby. The colours are really crisp.
I feel a bit of a fraud as well commenting on landscapes as I'm largely rubbish at them!
All the best

Thanks for the comments Dai - I tend to agree, although some thoughts with regard to 4 and 5:
4. I loved the number of vibrant colours in the scene - didn't really want to crop closer or frame any differently because I liked the framing of the lantern, and I think there was a skip or something lower on the street which detracted. In hindsight I wish I took more shots there!
5. Thought here that to focus on the vine was best as the background was largely uninteresting bar the boat which is a long way off and moving anyway. Again impatience got the better of me, and I didn't take your suggested shot!

AlistairThe colours are stunning for sure - I guess I want to know what I'm missing at street level as much as anything if you see what I mean. I know where you're coming from re some junk at street level though, that would have detracted from the shot...
Cheers
