Thought I'd have a nose around in here and just say a quick hello since my RX-8 is due in a few months time

Confirmed delivery is December. No exact date yet, but at least I know it'll be before the New Year

Don't suppose there are any other pre-orders/potential orderers in here?

I was tempted, but i'm waiting to see what develops in the out-and-out sports usage of the rotary engine.

Don't count on it. Delivery has slipped three months in the last nine. When I ordered mine in January (and I got a run-around doing that) I was told July/August, that became August/September, then October and now November. They will probably decide for you that you don't want a 2003 plate and a 2004 one is just what you want.

I also note that the performance figures have slipped, it was 0-60 in 6.0 and now it's 6.4.

OK, stuff happens but there seems to be no contrition from either Mazda or the dealer.

I'm in the US this week so I'm going to see if I can get a test drive. The dealer near me has stock.

Simon,

I'm aware of the delivery date changes for initial pre-orderers, from an expect July date to Oct/November now. I ordered mine in Winning Blue, which wasn't a launch colour and wasn't expected until the end of the year anyway. I believe all pre-orders have received a letter now CONFIRMing the delivery month. Up until this point there was no confirmed, written delivery date from Mazda.

Are you on www.rx8forum.com ? If not, you should come on over - there is a wealth of information that all the European members have managed to find. Several have had test drives already, in this country, and I in fact have mine next weekend (13th).

Some dealers seem to be in the dark, and others seem to know a bit more. The forum has provided a means of getting the info out to those that don't know. Admittedly this should be done by Mazda, but at least it's not as bad as it seems.

Might see you there!

I found the signal to noise ratio too low on that forum. I've had a test drive (in the US) and bought a couple of models. Radio Shack does a 1/64th scale radio control.

My order says Estimated Delivery: August. The website still says July. My confirmation letter says November - but no date in November so given the history I'm expecting it to slip within November.

Nice shape not too sure about the motor though. They seem to be down on the original quoted bhp and I was reading yesterday they use quite a bit of oil - so make sure you check it.

Cool choice.

Rotaries always burn oil - they have to, otherwise they'd blow up in a hurry
