Currently in the market for a new bike - one shop i was speaking to mentioned that they had pretty much sold their 2008 specialized stock and were putting pressure on the supplier to get an early delivery of the 2009 model. They then refused to say when this would arrive - v helpful. Havent purchased an entire bike new for a while and as it is only June i was surprised to hear this.

So the question is when do you think the 2009 models will hit the shelves - i would have guessed at November in time for xmas...??

Thanks CAB

A lot of the manufacturers have just done (or are in the process of doing) their Dealer Launches at the moment.

Then they'll hold off releasing them until the majority of the current stock has sold out.

We have '09 cannondales and Specializeds for sale within the next 2 weeks, they tend to come in dribs and drabs.

The problem is as the dealer you spoke to has answered, there is little 08 stock left.An example for you, Trek in the states has over ten thousand madones ordered from around the world. Most popular the 5.2.They increased production again and again and still didn't catch up.....hence supply issues, end of 08 and now 09 bikes.Giant was the same, as was Gary Fisher and Specialized.Hey ho!
Its not helped by the culture of people expecting an upgrade every year.We may however find that 09 bikes run for longer than previous model years to get some continuity in the system.

Yes, people seem not to understand that bikes run out.

All the popular specializeds are out.

Also remember - 09 bikes your typically looking at a 5 to 20% price increase for the same spec, or a decrease in spec for the same £££.

I am not kidding. Even kids bikes are up by £££.

Buy now. Seriously.

Yep, all prices are up on 09 so far as what we've seen.
A good note for who bought a 4.7 madone, its an 09 bike with no changes from 08....apparently smile

Yup, picked it up yesterday cloud9

Absolutely right, no functional change, however it is an 09 bike, the difference being that the Trek logo on the downtube is now solid white rather than an outline, and interestingly (if you're a trainspotter like me), is now a sans serif font. Me and the shopwoner spent a good 12 seconds comparing it to a 5.2 (08 model) sitting next to my new steed.

So was the 09 model priced above the 08 model? if yes can you please advise by how much?

Nope, don't believe that Trek have yet put up their prices - can't be far away though. Gary the shop owner was telling me that he has been hit by other brands hiking their prices, as they can no longer absorb currency weaknesses, increased shipping (fuel) costs, etc - as some of the guys have said above, some of the kids bikes that were ca.£110 2007/08 are now £130ish, so assuming that it's going to be a percentage based increased, God only knows the likely hike on mid/top-end bikes.

I see you're London based - now that I've been there a few times and successfully been measured/had bike set up, I can thoroughly recommend East St Cycles - they have 3 shops, Richmond Upon Thames, Walton On Thames and Farnham (the one I went to). If Gary's in one of the London stores today, tell him Spencer sent you!
