I know I am probably asking the wrong people but...

Should I get a roof over my head or a TVR on my (mum and dads) driveway?

I am thinking a Griff 4.3 as so I don't go silly and a second car with less grunt than a kitten for the weekend blast (or should that be the other way round???).

Or do I get a nice little cottage in the country with a huge mortgage and a pathetic little shitbox as a 'car'.

Have any of you been in the same predicament??

P.S. The TVR would really piss off the girlfriend.

Get the House.. and get on the Property ladder as soon as you can. Having started with nothing a few years ago, I now have the little cottage in the country and the TVR (only an S2 but I like it).

Also on the "pulling" stakes, granted the TIv would get the Ladies interested, but then saying "come back to my parents place" is a bit of a downer

No need to pull, I am happy with my current catch, but I suppose if I got the 'tiv the ball n chain would dump me for a more level headed individual.

Oh well my 'car'nall desires may have to be quashed for a few years yet.

Bugger.

get the house, the longer you leave it, the harder it'll be, and you won't be able to afford either.
This is probably not the answer you want.

Sad, but I agree with the others, get the house... Thinking that house prices tend to increase and 2nd hand car prices tend to decrease in a year or two you will be able to have both. They are worth the wait..

Gotta agree. I bought a house 3.5 years ago - could've afforded a Tiv then (just) but bought a sensible-ish hot-hatch (cash!) and got myself a mortgage.

Finally picking up a Tiv tomorrow....

At least once you've got your own house, you'll be able to garage it.

House it is then.

I was genuinly torn between the two but I see you all have your sensible heads on today so I should get pleading to my bank manager ASAP.

Thanks you lot!

Now, do you think we could discuss wallpaper?

No?

OK, I'll get me overalls.

Having just bought a new Tiv, I'd say buy the house! Not because of reliability or anything like that as I absolutely adore it. However, cars only go down in value, houses can go up!

Yeh... Buy the house.

I remember a TV show (it may have even been Top Gear) which did a report on sad 30-40 something muppets who drove Ferraris and Lambos, but still lived with Ma and Pa.

The question is: can you sleep, have a shower, make parties in the Tiv?

How about a Griff with a tow bar and a big lump of Tupperware with wheels hooked on the back for me to kip in?

You could do both: I bought a 'shell' apartment in central London (Clerkenwell) and proceeded to have it converted into a modern apartment. This meant buying it cheap (from urbanspaces.com) and spending 7 months hard work / frustration etc on it, but it's well worth it. Am now in the position to sell it for 90k profit. Not a bad way to jump start the property ladder and get that car within a year!

There must be similar opportunities there. Try searching online for estate agents like urban spaces, or even ask them for similar contacts in manchester - I'm sure they'll oblige. It's worth the effort - just think about picking up those girls next year in the tvr and taking them back to your own pad!
