I just happen to be in France on holiday from the 4th to the 12th, based in Mortain, about 1 hour approx from Lemans
Im only able to go on the 11th, as my ferry back to the UK is on the 12th...(i didnt even know it was on, just browsing and saw the dates, so it's a welcome surprise really, though a shame I will miss the main day)

Is there much to see on the 11th, is it worth a trip down?
I was also wondering if you could buy tickets 'on the gate' as it were, or whether you have to prebook?

You will be able to buy tickets on the gate or, if it's the same as yesterday, you can pre-book and collect them at the circuit.

Friday looks like this:

From 9:00on Ouverture du circuit au public

15:00-20:00 Essais chronométrés de jour / Day practices

20:30-21:30 Tours de piste / Track Discovery laps

22:00-02:00 Essais de nuit / Night practices

For more ticket info have a look here:

Alternatively, why not look at re-booking a later crossing?

In your shoes I would do it - Classic practice is a great day as (to my mind anyway) you'll see all the cars, some of which won't make the race, and can wander around all the bits of the track very easily, without too many crowds. Then, as said above, miss the ferry back and stay on..

Tickets are available on the gate, no probs, and from memory are good value for Friday only.
