Hi there,

As you all know I love photographing cars and supercars inparticular.

Many of my shots are taken at cars show where there is usually crowds of people around and this means I am usually only able to grab a few quick shots so that other people can get to look at the car.

Well this week I have organised a couple of shoots. All being well I am shooting a very special Lamborghini Murcielago on Tuesday and a Lamborghini Diablo SV on Thursday. The owners have been very obliging and should let me have a pretty free reign, although the cars will be static I think.

Previously I have seen shots from other photographers where they concentrate on parts of the car and get what I would class as detail and close up shots. I have never tried this before so thought I would have a go this afternoon on my own car.

Here is my attempt: -

Please can you guys have a look at this pics and give me any pointers where neccessary.

Regards

Tim

I personally favour making the details into almost an abstract image - you're on the right lines, but try and leave brick walls etc out of shot.
This is an Enzo nose I photographed - the car was in the Silverstone paddock surrounded by cars, people and assorted junk, so I just used details. Seemed to work ok. I took probably 20 different images of it. In this one I've got rid of the dirty grey tarmac.

As an example of my way of thinking, I'd do one of your shots like this:

Don't forget you can always take a shot of the full car and crop it to show only highlights - that's what I end up doin'!!

Wheels on full lock, Brake caliper shots are good, intake vents, etc. I don't think you'll have a problem, Tim, you know what you're on with smile

Take your tripod and take the same shot twice only once with the engine visible. You can then photoshop the engine cover out to reveal the engine inside!! Seen it once, looks good.

Enjoy and remember, if you need someone to hold all ya gear, I'm ya man biggrin

have fun,
Scott

I like this style of shooting, your Smart's come out well and would polish up with a bit of PS time. Generally agree with the other posts. Your PH sticker is a bit of a feature but it's worth taking the tax disc/ holder off the screen.

Might not suit the style of car but what about Hockneyising by working your way along or around with a series of detail shots.
